I wiped my eyes, pissed off at myself for even crying in the first fucking place.
I stood in front of the mirror in our bathroom and practically watched the bruise appear under my left eye and blood dripped from a small cut.

I ran a washcloth under cool water and wiped the blood away; it didn’t really hurt that bad, I’d definitely been through worse, but that didn’t stop me from feel betrayed.

I laid in our bed and let more tears slip down my cheeks as I cried quietly into the pillow.
There was a knock on the door and I just laid quietly, ignoring it.

“Ly?” Sally’s muffled voice came from the other side. “Are you okay?”

“Go away, Sally” I muttered

“I’ll be in my room if you want to talk, Noel left and I’m putting Jack down for a nap”

She waited for an answer and when I didn’t give her one, I could hear her walking back up the hallway.

I laid quietly, staring at the wall trying to will the thoughts creeping into my brain back out again.

I needed my mom; I didn’t know what to do.

When I couldn’t fall asleep, I pulled myself up from the bed and went out to the kitchen to make myself something to eat.
I was hoping I could eat and clean up without being bothered, but I wasn’t so lucky. Halfway through making myself a sandwich, the gate phone rang, I ignored it, letting Sally answer, I didn’t much feel like talking to anyone.
I turned around when I heard voices in the hallway coming into the kitchen

“…She wasn’t feeling the greatest, earlier, so…” Sally said being followed closely by Peggy.

Fuck.

Sally noticed me standing by the island and smiled faintly “Oh, you are awake…”

I nodded “Couldn’t sleep…”

“Lyla, dear!” Peggy smiled “How have you been?” She asked wrapping me in a hug

I smiled hugging her back just as tightly “Good” I answered taking a step back and in typical mom fashion, she immediately noticed my cheek.

“What on Earth did you do?” She asked still holding me by the arms

I shook my head running my fingers through my hair with a small laugh “It was nothing, just a…” she had put me on the spot, I didn’t really know what to tell her that wouldn’t sound stupid. “A work thing..” I finished.

Sally glanced sideways at me as she poured herself a glass of water, but she didn’t say anything.

“You should be more careful, love” she smiled as she fixed my bangs. “That looks painful”

I shook my head as we sat at the table “I deserved it, things can only be stacked so high…”

Sally and I traded another glance as she excused herself and disappeared back to her bedroom.

“Where’s Our Noel?”

I bit down on the inside of my cheek, I knew that was coming. “He’s gone…out somewhere; I’m not really sure where”

At least that much was true, I had no fucking clue where Noel had gone.

“And Jack’s upstairs napping” I finished “I should probably go get him up soon or he won’t sleep tonight…”

We both looked up as the garage door opened and Noel walked in with his sunglasses perched on his nose.
I immediately looked back at the plate of untouched food sitting in front of me, I didn’t care much for being in the same room as him right now.
