Despite what Noel said, a couple of weeks later, Sally had come back home and asked if I had been arrested.

Was she fucking kidding? It hadn’t exactly been all sunshine and roses since she’d left, but I sure as hell hadn’t gotten arrested either.

"I’m standing in front of you aren’t I?” I rolled my eyes looking at Noel. "Who the fuck told you that?"

"Nobody," she yelled "Pierre and I were just out and-"

"You got cornered didn't you?" I asked cutting her off

"I did not get cornered!" She yelled again "God Lyla, not everyone's life is a shit show like yours!"

She stormed out of the kitchen stomping up the stairs to her bedroom; I sighed and turned around to look at Noel.

He just looked at me and I glared back "She asked me if I was arrested, still think she's smart?"

"Lyla, she just wanted to make sure, she probably got bombarded over there, keep in mind she's only nineteen; this is all new to her"

It's not new to her; she's been around it long enough!"

"With you, or me, or Liam; she's never been on her own"

I looked at him furrowing my brow. “Could you pick a side here, is she your wife or am I?”

“Lyla, I ain’t on anybody’s side”

“Well you should be, you should be on my side” I snapped “Why the hell would she ask me something like that?”

“She’s scared, Lyla, she needs you to tell her everything is alright, she needs her big sister to be on her side.”

I knew he was right, but I was too proud to admit it, especially right now; ever since we had been little, I was always the one being dramatic, or the one that knew better because I was older; nothing ever seemed to be Sally’s fault.

The heat from Detective Doyle had finally started to die off; apparently Guigs had told a pretty convincing story to assure him of my innocence.

Because Noel had cancelled the rest of his tour, he had been spending a lot of time at home, making difficult for me to indulge in my rekindled love affair with cocaine.
He was still using, but he was under the impression that I wasn’t, and hadn’t been since Jack was born. He knew I had started smoking again, and like the hypocrite he is, had something to say about it.

I sat on the front porch watching the rain coming down in sheets; it never seemed to stop raining here…ever.

I heard the front door open behind me as I put another cigarette between my lips and dug in my jacket pocket for my lighter.
Noel’s hand appeared in my line of vision holding a lighter between his fingers. I took it without a word and he sat in the empty chair next to me.

“Y’shouldn’t be smokin’ so much, Ly…”

“Neither should you” I said glancing sideways at him as I blew smoke over our heads, handing him his lighter back “Among other things…”

“We ain’t talkin’ about me”

“We never are...” I muttered

“Why’d y’start smokin’ again?” he asked ignoring my comment

I sighed irritated looking at him “I don’t know Noel, maybe because I’ve been a little fucking stressed out as of late”

“An’ y’started usin’ again…”
