MY TAKE: Where I Wanna Be by Donnell Jones is a staple album for the R&B and Neo-Soul genre of music. It was one of those albums that gave off the true sound of the late 90s before the Y2K wave caved in. Despite the new sound for R&B in the '99-'00s, this album was able to maintain leverage. It gave people back then, a taste of nostalgia of what older R&B was ( around this time the sound of R&B was changing )— but it still had its own uniqueness to it. Aside from that, this album was a story telling album— having songs that were placed in a specific order to depict the man's story. It took you through a journey, upholding the typical archetypes that come to mind when thinking about love and relationships. Although it's not talked about as much as other albums that follow the same vibes ( Voodoo, Mama's Gun, etc. ), this album definitely was a preview of what was to come in the future for R&B and Neo Soul in the 2000s.

BEST SONG— you know what's up.

this song is the perfect urban hit, giving you a mix of hip hop r&b and neo-soul. if you don't listen to the lisa lopes version of the song, you're missing out and probably don't understand what I'm getting at when it comes to this
song.

UNDERRATED SONG— all her love.

this song depicts the feelings and realization of giving effort in love. the fact that the song is in limited perspective, but can seen through both sides is incredible. not too mention the flawless instrumental. the guitar will do it for me every time.

WORST SONG— when i was down.

the song is great. but I feel like the beat is overriding and drowning out the vocals the entire song, especially in the chorus.
