chapter four:

josh slams his shot down on the table.

"who wants moreeeee!" sam yelled out as he walked over with a tray of shots.

"me! me! me!" josh said eagerly, quickly jumping up and taking two shots of off the tray.

"you're an animal." danny said, laughing.

currently josh and sam were the most intoxicated of the five. danny and amber had several shots and a drink or two, but nearly as much as the other two. jake on the other hand has only had one beer.

"why aren't you drinking, brother?" sam asked as he approached jake who was sitting next to amber.

jake shrugged his shoulders.

"i'm assuming they're always like this when they drink?" amber asked danny, leaning towards him.

"yep." he sighed.

jake then abruptly left the group, walking outside.

amber turned back to see josh and sam finishing the tray of shots, then running onto the dance floor.

"i should go check on jake." danny said, beginning to stand up.

"i'll check on him, you go and control the party animals over there." amber said, pointing to sam and josh who were dancing near the speakers where music blasted out of.

danny nodded and walked over to the two boys, laughing at their drunken states.

amber then began to walk outside, the music fading away as she reached the footpath, soon noticing jake leaning against the brick wall, a cigarette between his lips.

"hey." amber said as she approached him, shoving her hands in her pockets.

jake pulled the cigarette out from between his lips, puffing out smoke.

"hi." he said quietly.

"you've been very quiet compared to everyone else." amber said as she leant on the brick wall next to him, "sam told me it was the nerves."

jakes face turned a shade of red, though he tried hiding it by putting the cigarette back between his lips.

"sorry." jake said as he pulled the cigarette out of his mouth, "i'm not usually like this it's just that... well i don't really have an excuse for it." he chuckled.

amber smiled, "it's okay."

jake held his cigarette out to amber, and she took it from him, soon puffing out smoke and handing it back to him.

"you excited to perform in a few days?" amber asked, looking up to jake.

"yeah. australian crowds are different... they're better." he admitted, "but not as good as home shows..." he added, "what about you?" he then asked.

"bit nervous." amber said, blushing slightly.

"you'll do great, everyone loves you." jake said.

everyone? amber thought to herself.

"well i sure hope so." amber said, looking up to him.

he looked down to her, his deep brown eyes licking with her's, and that's when she felt the shivers shoot up her arm.

she didn't know what that feeling was.

there was suddenly shouting from inside, and amber looked through the window to see sam and josh yelling the lyrics of the song while danny rested his head in his hand, obviously so done.

"how about let's grab the others and for an electric scooter ride?" amber asked jake.

"sounds like a good idea." jake said, chuckling at his brothers.
