Back at the compound I go to my room, the bathroom connected and turn on the shower. The water is steaming when I step inside I let my shields down, expecting Druig's salty voice to appear but it doesn't. I frown, I find Druig's mind, his steel walls are firmly in place.
Druig? I try why are you shutting me out?
I am greeted with silence, it hurts me more then I thought it would. Druig never puts up his walls, it was a promise he made me in Egypt.
Is something wrong? I ask but silence ensues more. I step away, letting my mind come back to the shower. I clean myself before getting out and wrap my towel around my body. I head into my room I almost jump out of my skin at Vision, standing in the middle of my room with a sweater on that gives him a weird look. "Vision!" I shout, clutching my towel tightly "you can't just sneak into people's rooms!" He looks around at me seemingly confused "I didn't sneak in, in fact I used the door." I sigh at his innocence and run a hand through my wet hair "what is it?" I ask.
Vision looks around my room before answering "Mr Stark is here, with General Ross and they'd like a meeting." I nod slowly, whatever this is about can't be good and it probably won't have a good outcome. I clutch my towel tightly as say "right well, I need to get dressed." Suddenly realising that this is his cue to leave Vision exits through the door, I guess Wanda has been teaching him a few things.
I change into a cream jumper and black sweatpants. I make sure to leave my mental walls down, just incase Druig wants to talk before heading down for this meeting.
The room is somber, everyone is quite, Tony is sitting away from the group I notice and I choose a seat next to Steve who gives me a weary smile. "Five years ago I had a heart attack and dropped right in the middle of my backswing." General Ross starts doing actions to accentuate his words "turned out it was the best round of my life because after 13 hours of surgery and a triple bypass I found something 40 years in the army had never taught me. Perspective."
I let my mind push against Druig's walls as I listen to the man standing at the head of the table "the world owes the Avengers an unpayable debt." He says "you have fought for us... protected us, risked your lives.... But while a great many people see you as heroes. There are some who would prefer the word vigilantes." I sit up, crossing one leg over the other.
I study the man infront of us, who thinks he is above us because he works for the government. He doesn't realise I was here when this government was established the first time, before America was even discovered. In fact if it wasn't for me and the rest of the Eternals he probably wouldn't be here. But ignorance is bliss. I let him continue.
"And what word would you use, Mr Secretary?" Natasha asks seemingly entertained by this, she sees it the way I do. I smile softly for a moment before wiping the expression away. "How about dangerous?" He offers and I fight the urge to laugh, he seems unaware of the affect this has caused as he presses on "what would you call a group of US-based, enhanced individuals..." he looks at Wanda and i as he says that "who routinely ignore sovereign borders and inflict their will wherever they choose. And who, frankly, seem unconcerned about what their leaving behind?"
