Druig and I enter the bar in the early hours of the next morning, it's empty besides two other men. "Let's get started." I say firmly, taking a seat at the bar. Enzo and Javier spin in their own seats to look at me, "So what do we know about it?" Javier asks, leaning one arm on the bar. There is a level of tensity in the air that can only come when facing an unknown.
"It hunts mostly at night." I answer without taking a pause "although I have caught sightings of it during the day it was very rare, probably because it got disturbed. I know it feeds primarily on humans and that fire can kill it." Druig let's out a breath and taps his hands on the wooden bar.
He then places his hand flat down on it before saying "that isn't a lot sweetheart." I roll my eyes and glance over at him, his eyes already trained on me "well that's all we have. Until we find where it's sleeping, we don't even know what it is." I insist.
"That's the first thing we need to do." Enzo adds "and quickly." I bite the inside of my cheek nervously. Javier's leg bounces up and down while Druig just replies "if we don't know what it is then how can we find it." I rub my forehead, tensely "Druig, if you aren't going to suggest anything helpful, I suggest you shut up." I say and he does.
The barman hands me a glass of water and I thank him for it. "Our best bet is searching the woods." Enzo says after another moment of silence "there are caves all over that it could use to hibernate in." I nod slowly.
Druig's hand is on the back of my chair as he adds "Noel and I can do that, why don't you two start researching." Javier opens his mouth to say something but shuts it when he sees the look on Druig's face.
"Fine." He says before standing up, the rest of us copy him and head out of the door. Druig has a hand on the base of my back, supposed to be comforting but I can't help but think this is a claiming gesture instead. So I shrug him off.
Everyone is waking up now and the streets are starting to get busy. "Meet back here tonight." I say, scanning the crowd, Enzo nods his head and the two of them leave. Once they are out of ear shot I swirl round to Druig who is looking all cute with his hair messy thanks to the cooling Spanish wind and his hands in his jacket pocket.
"Let's be clear." I snap angrily "I don't know what that was but you always having to touch me, it has to stop." Druig smirks playfully and I try to stay serious "I get you're a man so you have a whole thing about protecting what's yours but I can handle myself."
Druig dips his head slightly "I know you can gorgeous." He says softly "but I could read the younger ones mind, his thoughts were quite loud. And do you know what he was thinking?" I don't satisfy him with reply. So he continues "he was remembering you're lips on his, he is lucky I didn't have his head for that. No one else should know what your lips feel like."
I swallow hard, shake my head and step back. "Just shut it." I say with less anger then I did before "we have a job to do." Druig just chuckles gently and follows after me like a puppy.

We reach the forest, far from the busy streets of the town. "Are you sure of what you saw back then?" Druig asks as we step over fallen branches "what do you mean?" I counter. He helps me over a fallen log "I mean, couldn't it have just been a wolf?" He clarifies and I frown "don't you think I would know the difference?"
He throws his hands up in surrender and turns around to look at me "I'm just saying! If it only came out at night, you could have seen a shadow or something." I roll my eyes and take down the barriers of my mind. "Have a look and you tell me what you see." I say and his eyes go yellow as he uses his power.
I am helping the women pack up their laundry by the river, the sun finally setting. "Jakob, don't run off too far." One of the women, Augusta calls out to her little boy, only 8 years old who goes running off into the woods in front of us. One of the other women, Lorna, chuckles "that boy is going to be a little heartbreaker when he is older." we all laugh and Augusta lets out a breath. "If that's the only thing I will have to worry about." She muses and I smile gently.
That's when we hear his scream. "Jakob!" I shout racing after the boy, his mother hot on my heels. We reach a small clearing and see a big black figure, bigger than a bear but the body of the wolf, leering over the little boy. The monster growls, its focus completely on Jakob. I hold out an arm to stop Augusta from running for him. She freezes in place when she sees the creature and she cries out. The monster whirls its head to us and I push her behind me "Augusta, Jakob run!" I shout and they do.
The monster starts coming bounding towards me and I create an energy sword and use it to battle the creature. It roars angrily and swipes at me in a calculated way. It catches my arm and rips it open, I grit me teeth to keep from screaming out. I move to hit the monster again but it swipes its leg, hitting me in the stomach. It sends me flying and I hit a boulder. Knocked out.
When I wake up the dead bodies of Jakob and Augusta lay at my feet. Barely recognisable, their body parts strewn everywhere.
We pull out of my memory and Druig seems lost for words "you think a wolf did that?" I ask snappishly before pressing on. That was just another reminder of why I need to find this beast.
