"Are you nervous?" Wayne squeezed my thigh as he drove to his friend's house.
"No, why would I be nervous?" I pulled my dress down lower. I think it is too short. I have no doubt Wayne would beat up anyone who agreed with that statement.
It's about 9pm and I am heading into hell. A Saturday night with the boys.
He parked a couple of houses away. Cars crowded around the only house with its lights on. Wayne held my hand the entire time. Even when we walked into the loud living room. The room had familiar music
They are all going to think you're a fucking whore. I thought to myself. Just a girl who can't help but sleep around. I wonder who is going to be next.
Wayne squeezed my hand as he greeted his friends as a whole. "Hey, guys."
A bunch of deep, post-adolescent voices said different variations of hello. They all did a double take on me, the girl on his arm.
This is where it starts. The sideways glances. The carefree degradation. Either that, or the looks of a horny, desperate man. I already get enough of that from Wayne.
"Uh," one of the guy's murmured, "Simon's not here." I think his name is Jeremy or something.
"Yes, I made sure of that." Wayne's fingers grazed the inside of my wrist. "This is my girlfriend, Bethany. Most of you might know her as Simon's sister."
I took a deep breath and smiled. Hopefully it came off as sweet instead of awkward.
"Wayne?" Jeremy raised his eyebrows. "Are you sure about this?"
"J, I think he has made his decision." Anthony patted Jeremy on the shoulder. "Besides, it's better than the last one."
Wayne laughed and looked down at me. "I need a drink."
Bad idea. Very bad idea. I can't have him drunk again. It hurts me too much. I can't imagine what he thinks when he gets like that. I feel like I only heard a fraction of his thoughts that night.
Yet, I still watched him while he walked away. I didn't even try to stop him.
A guy moved from the middle of the couch to the side. "Come sit down," the man cleared his throat, "Bethany."
As I made my way to sit, I studied the man's appearance. His skin was a soft bronze, face shaped like an oval. His hair had tight curls. He had a shy, unmistakable demeanor.
"You look familiar." I tilted my head to the side, forcing myself to remember a time I have met this man.
"Yeah, we met briefly." He stretched out his A's. "I met you at a party that you threw."
"Oh! I remember!" I smiled. "I threw a party and we played drink or dare and Kelsey dared me to kiss-"
I cut myself off. I kissed him. I've kissed him before.
"Beth?" Another man's voice caught my attention. He pointed to himself. "I'm David, by the way."
I nodded and ran my fingers through the top of my hair.
"Are you telling us that you kissed Cameron?" David looked around the room before turning his gaze to me once again.
"Excuse me?" Wayne sat down next to me. This was a terrible idea.
I took Wayne's drink from him and gulped it down. Jägermeister. I pulled down my dress.
"Remember when we played Drink or Dare? This was before we were together." I took a deep breath when he nodded. His lips were in a thin line. "Well, I was dared to kiss everyone and so I guess I kissed Cameron."
