The rest of the afternoon is spent bringing boxes from the van, assembling furniture and putting things in their places. Well, for me and Sam it was mostly assembling because Caroline is a control freak when it comes to the placement of things, it needs to be exactly where she wants it so that she is able to know where everything is.
We mostly share college stories, mine and Ella's being recent, and Sam and Caroline just reminiscing on their good old (not that old) times. I eventually mentally smack myself on the head as I forgot to call Harry and arrange for our comeback to college. I excuse myself and head out to the backyard and dial his number.
"Oh, he lives!" Harry yells playfully on the other side which makes me roll my eyes and let out a chuckle. "Yes buddy, I'm terrible I know. How ya doing?"
"I'm fine, I'm fine. Slightly hung over but extremely glad we performed last night. Some hell of a story to tell at college on Monday." I laugh in agreement and tell him that he'll finally be able to pick up a girl to which he replies that he's already very capable of it. "Speaking of which, what time should I pick you up on Monday morning? Or do you want to go tomorrow night?"
"I was thinking of going tomorrow night but I actually don't need you to pick me up, I can pick you up instead if you'd like, since you're probably tired of driving us up there all the time anyway." Harry lets out a confused 'what' and I smack myself in the head again as I really need to start explaining things before I say them. "So... I know it's only been a couple hours since we last saw each other but me and Ella are dating, she has a car here that obviously she cannot take with her and she asked me to look after it while she's away."
"Oh my god dude! You finally got the girl!" Harry screams excitedly and this time I actually need to pull the phone away from my ear before he makes me deaf, which isn't great in the music industry. "But wait, did you just say that she cannot take the car? She's going back to the states?"
"She is, I want her to. I need to learn how to trust people, specially her. She never did anything to hurt me and I've done everything to hurt her. I believe in what we have and if dealing with distance for a couple months is what it takes to make it work, then that's what we will do."
"I'm really happy for you, mate. You deserve it. And I'm looking forward to hearing all about it on the drive. Pick me up tomorrow at any time, I'm all packed already." We say our goodbyes and I shove my phone in my pocket. Sam comes outside carrying a bag of coal and I look at him questioningly. "Dad just called and him and Amanda are on their way with some meat for us to cook. Are you guys staying for dinner?"
I consider it for a moment and this is my last night with Ella before she needs to go back, I don't want to take her away from her family, well our family I guess now with this marriage, but I also have spent so much time without her that I just wanted to have some private time. "I would like to take Ella out but let me go check with her what she wants to do."
Sam nods and starts preparing the barbecue while I head inside to find Ella. I hear her voice in the kitchen while she excitedly speaks to Caroline. "So, did you guys spend the night together or did you just meet up for lunch?"~
"Care, you're such a sucker for gossip." Ella giggles and Caroline denies it, stating that she's only wanting to understand how things are progressing. "We did spend the night together, since we left the party yesterday and we went to lunch together, he wanted me to be there with him while he spoke to his mom."
"Well, first, how did it go with the main bitch?" Caroline asks and I need to contain my laugh so they don't catch me eavesdropping. "It went well, I think. I'm really proud of how well he handled the situation although I know how hard it was for him. He needed it though, the closure so he can move on and make his own choices knowing both sides of the story. What he does now it's up to him and I support him regardless."
