I'm still dumbfucked about what I just learned. I cannot believe that Ella was actually my first kiss, that I have met her and been friends with her before. I wonder if her face earlier in Mr. Taylor's office was because of the dream she had or actually because she remembered me. Does she remember? If she does, why didn't she say anything? I can understand why Samuel didn't remind me, as he knows that I'm not one to socialize or look back on past trips I made with my mother, but I wonder if Caroline told her it was me.
I mean, Ella definitely knows who my brother is and he is her teacher. So it would make sense for her to know who I am too, or does she want to forget it for some reason? You should really stop asking yourself questions you cannot answer and focus on class, Josh. The teacher is calling for you. The teacher isn't calling for me........ "Hello Josh? Earth to Josh." The teacher Ms.Vaughn was waving her hand towards me and I quietly apologized for my lack of attention. "I'm sorry Ms, can you repeat please?"
"I was just letting the class know that you will be joining us for senior year and asking if you'd like to briefly introduce yourself." She gives me a sympathetic smile like she felt like I'm struggling to adjust to the move. Not that at all, you're just too focused on the blonde girl from your past instead of her boring class. "Uh, sure, I can do that." I sit up straighter in my seat and clear my throat. "My name is Josh Harrison, I just moved here from the United States, I'm 17 years old and that's basically all I have to say."
Ms.Vaughn doesn't push me to say anything more and just welcomes me to class and proceeds to explain what she is going to be teaching along the year. Some of the things I already learned in my previous school, but I would rather have it this way than the other way around. Also because I cannot seem to stop my eyes from drifting to Ella and to my surprise, I actually catch her looking back at me. When she notices, she immediately avoids my gaze and carries on paying attention and taking notes. She does seem like the type to do that. Now that I was able to remember where I know her from, I keep remembering moments from our two weeks together.
The kiss was a one time thing, but we kept hanging out very often and playing together. We never mentioned it to each other again, but I do believe that both of us were equally glad at the time to be each other's first kiss. I hope that nowadays, if she still remembers it, she still doesn't regret that moment 6 years ago.
"Now class, I want you to get together in pairs and we're gonna read and analyze the first chapter of The Great Gatsby." Ms.Vaughn takes out a hat from her desk drawer and asks us all to write our names in a piece of paper. She states that she believes that in order for a class to get to know each other and be close, they should get out of their comfort zone as much as possible. By this she means that you should work with different people, who knows, someday you might even match up with Ellie. That nickname, the one I had for her so many years ago and that she told me at the time that no one ever calls her that. I wonder if now anyone does. Well, Jack, so do I but don't make this any harder than it already is.
"So let's see our pairs... Tommy with Leah." The teacher starts taking random names from the hat and I wait for my name to be pulled out. I'm so excited for first day group activities where I need to interact with people. Oh the level of sarcasm, little Josh. I'm not little but yeah sure okay. "And last but not least, we have Josh and Ella." What. The. Actual. Living. Fuck.
Oh boy oh boy, this just got interesting! Joshy you got her! Oh my God, you need to tell her you remember her so you can live happily ever after. Okay Jack, take it down a notch on the exaggeration. That is definitely not going to happen. You could tell her you remember her at least. For a small moment in time I consider actually telling her that I remember, just to see if she remembers it in any way. These thoughts are dissolved by the chair next to me moving.
