*District 21: Bullpen*
After two corner boys were found shot dead dealing carfetanil in a familiar neighborhood, Crawford asked Hank to use his newest CI for the first time. He, of course, was able to get a name pretty easily.
"So the tip Darius gave us checks out. Book Barr, 26, with a long-ass rap sheet. He's got two pops for possession, one with intent to distribute, and a domestic on the side." Kevin reported from the whiteboard and handed a file to Kim who was leaning back on Vanessa's desk.
She proceeded to quickly scan it's contents while Hank released a grunt in response to the younger man's words.
"Narcotics has him listed as a current frequent to Washington Courts, and he has a hook into our unsanctioned corner boy." The female Officer informed, closing the file and gesturing at the board with it. "They grew up together in Maywood. This is our guy."
"Do we have a last known?" Hailey inquired from her desk.
"No. And no registered cell phone, no social media, keeps low." Vanessa listed from the blonde's left.
"Other than our dead corner boy, this guy's got a big zero in associates. Everybody he's been booked with is long dead." Adam spoke up from his desk. "CHRIS system's got him linked to three separate gangs, AKA they couldn't pin who he was working with."
"All right, so he must go where the weight is. Sounds like he's independent." Kevin reasoned. "He's cutting and supplying it himself."
"If he doesn't have any boys, then there's not gonna be anybody for us to work." Jay pointed out from where he was leaning back on the window sill behind Hailey.
"Well, then we make an access point, but we gotta take this guy quick and easy. I think our best bet is we set up a buy from him." Hank decided from Kim's left. "Anybody?"
"I may have someone that can set up an intro. Old CI of mine out of Maywood. I popped him when he was 18 on a burglary, flipped him, then he fell in love with working for the police. Never stopped." The blonde explained.
"He's like a professional CI now?" Adam wondered.
"Yeah, he makes a living shaking tips. CPD, DEA, FBI. You name letters, he's sold to 'em." Hailey nodded.
"So what's the hesitation?" Hank asked.
"If you ask me, he loves the chase more than we do, and it's not always worth the trouble." She warned.
"Well, we need an in, but he's your CI, so it's your call." The older man shrugged, standing up straight. "Can you handle him?"
"Yeah, I can handle him." Hailey assured.
"Okay, let's go." Hank commanded and moved to head towards his Office but he suddenly paused next to his wife's desk.
Ana was leaning back in her chair, arms crossed, and staring blankly at the area in front of her. The older man let out a small sigh and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Olivia called me." He murmured and the brunette understood the implication immediately. "How you holdin' up?"
Ana took a deep breath before speaking.
"I'm gonna tell you the same thing I've said to everyone else who's asked me that question." She muttered, finally locking eyes with her husband. "I don't know."
Hank just gave her shoulder a small squeeze before leaning down and pulling her into a quick kiss. Ana cracked a small smile and he returned it before disappearing into his Office.
*A While Later*
Hailey's CI was able to get her in and set up a deal with Barr but when it came to actually making it, thing went a bit awry. Barr managed to convince Hailey to ride with him and meet his source which turned into the drug dealer running a guy off the road. When he tried to actually take the drugs, the bag ripped open and he inhaled a lungful of uncut carfetanil. Depsite Hailey and her CI's best efforts, Barr didn't make it.
