Chapter song: Capital letters by Hailee Steinfeld.
________________________________________Shay hurried me into their apartment and in her haste to close the door, slammed it. She locked it as I stepped deeper into the room.
Loretta came out of her room just as I sat down at the sitting area. Shay joined me a second later.
"Hey. How was dinner?" Lore asked casually before reading the panicky look on our faces.
"What's wrong?" She hurried over to us.
"We were being followed." Shay answered. I rectified.
"Fray is having someone follow me. It's this guy in a black hoodie. Earlier today, when Tyler and I went out-"
"You're back together?" Lore pitched in and I nodded.
"Yes."
"Thank God!" She heaved a sigh of relief.
"Anyways, he bumped into us and acted all suspicious but I didn't think much of it until later, tonight."
Shay nodded. "I'd noticed him follow us all the way to the parlor. When I saw him hanging around I just knew he was onto us."
"Oh my goodness! This whole thing is a mess!" Loretta cried. "It's getting out of hands and I don't want us to sit around, waiting for something to happen before we act."
I frowned. "What are you saying?" I asked.
"We have to report him to the police. I know I'm the one who initially said we didn't have much evidence but we do have something." Lore was pacing around.
"Yes." Shay seconded. "We can show them the numerous disguises of Fray and tell them about his warnings. Threats. And finally the guy following you!"
I knew they were right. It was the reasonable thing to do. I just couldn't help the agitation.
My friends flanked me. "Hey. Nothing is going to happen okay? We'll take care of this. Together." Loretta consoled.
Shay gave an encouraging smile and I managed to smile back.
"Okay." I agreed in determination and watched as the girls mirrored me.
"But...can I stay the night?" Being alone would invite a decade of thinking and I was too tired for that.
Shay smacked her lips in disapproval and Loretta shot me a scolding look. "Of course! You don't have to ask." Shay said.
I smiled. "If I'm staying, we're all sharing a bed. Like old times." I watched the two's reaction.
They fidgeted and looked away from each other. Lore eventually demanded Shay's gaze on her by pining her with an intense stare. The later relented and slowly nodded.
