Tyler sat on the other side of mother as she hounded him with questions. I picked up on the double meanings behind her seemingly harmless questions.

"So what are you studying?" Stella asked curiously.

"Business administration." Tyler answered politely and she actually looked impressed. Whether it was his course or politeness that impressed her, I didn't care.

I only cared that Tyler was in the same room as her.

"Impressive. It doesn't take too much of your time does it? Because I'd hate if you weren't making enough time for my baby." She was wearing her deluding easygoing smile. Tyler shot a wary look my way but I ignored him with a blank face.

"I mean...it demands attention but which college course doesn't?" He chuckled awkwardly and Stella's lips shook in barely suppressed distaste. My jaws clenched at her reaction to him.

"Right." She forced out. Tyler turned to me with a soft smile.

"We make it work though. I know Sierra has a lot on her plate so we find a balance." My eyes strayed to Stella and read the look in her eyes. They were literally oozing disapproval. I hated yet expected it.

"Great! I'm glad you know she has a lot on her plate. We wouldn't want more added right?" She responded and Tyler nodded.

She stood a second later and announced her departure. She patted my hair one last time and placed a cold kiss on my forehead. She hadn't done that in ages and to think when she finally did , it was to show off to 'my boyfriend.'

I sat fuming silently until the door slammed after her. Tyler and I remained encased in the tensed moment.

"So..." he started. My jaws clenched as response.

"She seemed nice..." he trailed off, unsure. I wanted to smack him stupid.

"I think I managed to convince her I wasn't being a distraction." That pulled me out of my haze of anger. My seething eyes turned sharply and landed on him.

"I told you to fucking stay put!"

"I know but I really wanted to meet her." He almost pouted and I almost scoffed. So childish sometimes it wasn't even cute just plain annoying!

"Why's that?! If I'd wanted you to, wouldn't I have dragged you out here myself?!"

A serious look finally settled on his face when he realized I was really mad. "She's your mother. Of course I'd want to meet her. I don't see the big deal here?"

I laughed humorlessly. "No but why would you see the big deal? Of course it's not a big deal that you couldn't trust me enough to do as I told, no questions asked!"
