I materialized in an unfamiliar room. The pale, almost white, creamy color of the walls stared hauntingly at me. The panda stuffed toy which sat on the floor gazed right at me creepily. But what knocked the breath out of my lungs for a split second was the figure that lay under the cream comforters covered all from the head down to the legs, the delicate periphery pushing against the covers, hinting at any intruder; the bed wasn't empty.
A sudden scream tore through the calm air. The covers slowly lowered to reveal a mass of chocolate brown hair with big matching eyes. Tiny hands peeked out to grab an extra pillow. Barely a second later, the pillow was buried in a chest.
The scream resounded. It reverberated off of the walls and the delicate figure sat up in bed with a sigh. It was almost like I felt the impact of that scream more. I deliberated the thought for a second before pushing it away when the figure jumped out of the bed.
It was a little girl. She pitter pattered to the door and turned the knob, stepping out. I followed her as she walked down a hall and made for a door to her right. She pushed the door open and stepped through.
The clicking sound of the door closing caught attention. A boy sat up from his bed. Confused for a second, he stared at the little girl. He heard the screams and the confusion cleared.
He beckoned the little girl over and she went to him climbing into his lap. He plugged something like ear phones into her ears and brushed over her hair. He kissed her head and tucked her in his chest.
Suddenly thunder struck, disappearing with the power supply. Drenched in darkness, the room was eerily silent for a moment. It didn't last long. The little girl started crying.
In a flash the lights came back on. But gone was the boy. The little girl sat alone angry wails escaping her. I stepped forward. To comfort. To ask where the little boy was.
But I fell. I kept falling. I was whipping through air.
And then I was back in the little girl's room.
The walls hauntingly stared. The stuffed panda gazed creepily. The delicate figure was engulfed by the covers.
A scream tore through the air. The little girl sat up abruptly. She jumped out of the bed when a second scream followed. She left the room for the hall and then to the door on the right.
She pushed it open. The boy sat waiting for her. He opened his arms and she ran to him, climbing into his lap. He fixed ear phones into her ears. She nestled into his chest.
