"Are you sure you want to do law school and work baby?"
Staring up at his wife from the inside of his white Range Rover Brandon asked the question that had been running through his mind all day. His hand instinctively wrapped around her waist, his palm resting on her stomach. Looking up at his future he couldn't help his instinctive protectiveness.
"Yes Brandon I'm sure, when have I ever not done something I wanted to do? I'll be alright baby. We'll all be alright."
Kesi assured him , her fingers gently caressed his face before she kissed his forehead. She'd already heard this spiel from the dean of her school but at the same time she knew herself. It would be tough but she could do it.
"How can I disagree with that?"
"You shouldn't B. Anyway , you better get going before you end up late. Amelia and your mum will be here soon to pick me up and you're not supposed to be around then."
A smile graced her face as she scolded him. She knew it was his weakness and judging by how his expression mirrored hers she was positive that she'd broken through. Raising his hands in surrender he kissed her tenderly before he allowed her to move away. Closing his door for him , Kesi blew him a kiss before she waved goodbye. Another away game , he'd be gone for three days.
She didn't like being alone and the wedding was only one week away so they were now going through rehearsals and checking the final details of everything. Thinking about it made her heart flutter, in mere days she'd be marrying her best friend, her lover , her headache, her everything.
The house they lived in felt too big as she stepped into it. In mere months there'd be tiny feet occupying the space as well. A blessing and a secret, she and Brandon hadn't revealed the news to their families yet but she was sure Mrs. Ingra, suspected. She saw the changes in Kesi and Brandon, physical and personality wise.
Brandon was now home whenever he could be , even moving his guy time to their living room where she'd find him , Josh , Kyle and Lonzo with the addition of Rajon or Lance from time to time if not his boys from Kinston. Their home had become a warmer space, a gathering ground all bred from his insistence to not miss a moment he didn't absolutely have to.
She was sure during his time away that he'd call her whenever he got the chance to.
"Hmm" surveying herself in the large mirror which hung in the foyer , Kesi turned to the side and felt her stomach "Please , if you can don't go ham with the tiger stripes you give me , okay?"
There was no sign that she was pregnant , her stomach was as flat as it always was but she did see the changes in her waist. Amelia had commented on it during her final fitting. She'd tried hard to not let it get any worse.
A honk resounded and she recognized the sound and pattern it came in. Amelia always honked three times when she arrived so Kesi gathered her bag and made her way out. The smiling faces that greeted her made her day brighter. In a short period of time she'd went from having no mother to gaining two. Two wonderfully warm and inviting individuals.
"Hello Beautiful Ladies." Kesi greeted each of them with a kiss on the cheek.
"Hey Kes , you've got that wedding glow on you huh?"
Amelia laughed and Joann agreed with a kind smile on her face. Her fingers reaching out to toy with one of Kesi's curls.
"You have to tell me what you use to get it this defined? These gels and creams ain't working for me sugar." Joann commented before she patted her natural hair which fell in it's kinky curly pattern , framing her face.
"Honestly , I just throw in whatever comes to my hand first. Got it from my dad I guess?"
"Yup and little miss Kaia picked it up too , she still refuses to let me comb her hair , so I just throw water and some coconut oil in it. She's happy and I'm happy that way."
