Kesi looked around her room before looking back at herself. She hoped this was okay , she didn't feel like dressing up for tonight , honestly she didn't even want to go anymore but she'd already said yes to Matisse.
She wished Aziah were here to critique her outfit. Kesi slid her hands down the sides of her jeans and then over her simple black tube top , she'd straightened her hair as well. She almost didn't recognize herself so she added a few loose curls.
She surveyed herself one more time as she put on lip gloss and waited for her thoughts to align. She'd definitely see Brandon , he'd called her twice , she didn't pick up , he'd messaged her three times, she didn't respond. He knocked on her door and she pretended she wasn't in the room. This avoiding Brandon game was exhausting and childish but she couldn't convince herself to end it.
A knock resounded on her door and she opened it to only see Matisse who was looking quite handsome. He smiled at her as he offered his hand.
"You look gorgeous."
He complimented and she looked down as she put her hand through his and they made their exit.
They got into their sides of his car and as soon as he turned it on , Wiz Khalifa's Roll Up started playing. Kesi laughed at this , this song had some memories for her. Matisse looked over at her and smiled before he began to sing the lyrics.
She sighed and looked out the window as she remembered those Kinston nights.
Buzzz Buzzz.
Kesi turned over in her sleep, blinking into the darkness , she looked over at her alarm clock as the vibrations started again.
4: 59 am.
She dug around in her pillows until she found the source of the vibrations , her phone. Brandon was calling her. She rolled her eyes and picked up.
"Again?"
"Yeah Kesi , I don't know why I keep waking up around 4 or 5 but I can't go back to sleep."
Kesi rolled over , fully awake now.
This had happened a few times, whenever Brandon couldn't sleep he became restless. He'd begun waking up at strange hours and the first time it happened he texted her and she just happened to wake up and see it. She called him and they talked until 8.
"I'm outside your window, open up."
One night they discovered just how close they lived near each other. Brandon was across the street and two houses down. When he could sneak out , he'd come over during his nightly restlessness.
Kesi got up and opened it , watching as he climbed in all legs and arms. He was so tall. When he straightened up , he towered over her. He looked around her room before he hugged her and sat on her bed.
"I missed you today."
Brandon confessed, Kesi had been sick, she suffered an appendicitis but she was much better now after surgery and all.
"How are you feeling?"
He began to twirl one of her curls around his finger as he looked at her. The way he stared was so deep but Kesi just wrote it off as his sleep depravity. She smiled at him , actually smiled before she answered.
"Better , I'll be back to school Monday morning."
Brandon's face lit up at this news . He reached over in his jacket pocket and pulled out a small brown bag.
