Like usual in the daytime of the Outer Banks, the sun could be seen high up in the sky, occasionally hiding behind the white clouds that laid in the blue sky, very high above the civilians on the island.

The sound of engines from vehicles could be heard occasionally as the drivers drove along the concrete road, the sound of birds chirping all around adding to the sound. Right near a very dirty river, tossing trash bags onto the ground in front of them after looking for the murder weapon, the group of four could be seen together like they always were.

The Pogues had agreed to go find the weapon Ward Cameron used to kill Gavin with, but were quick to realize it was in the sewers since it had fallen down into the drain the night before and when they didn't find it in the trash bags.

"So, are we gonna do, like, rock, paper, scissors? Or alphabetically? Or, like, the oldest goes?" Y/n asks.

"In the sewer, there's this worm that you get when you're down there. It gets into your blood, and then it has to come out your pecker." JJ explains. "So, uh... that would be a hard pass for me."

Pope nods. "That's gonna be a no for me."

"No, I get it. You guys are scared." Kie points out.

Almost immediately, the boys had been quick to protest that they weren't scared, all while Y/n nodded in agreement to Kie's words, hearing her brother insist that it was the pecker thing while JJ put a tough expression onto his face.

Their insisting voices filling their eardrums, the girls exchanged a look with one another, finding themselves silently agreeing that they'd both go in together. Just like the boys, even if they wouldn't admit it like them, they were scared to go in as well, but they knew that if they'd go in together, they wouldn't be as scared since they were together.

"Kie and I will go in." Y/n blurts out when they finished speaking.

"Okay, just, you know, be careful." Pope tells them, glancing between the two girls he cared about.

"We'll be so careful." Kie assures in a sarcastic tone.

"We'll be so safe." Y/n adds, also sarcastic, but a smile was on her face.

And with that, Kie went on her hands and knees, slowly climbing through the hole that lead to the sewers, the occasional small splashes of water being heard and seen whenever they lifted up their hands, only to put them back down afterwards. Y/n was right behind the Carrera girl, both crawling inside.

Every few seconds or so, the boys voices echoed throughout the tunnel as they called to them from outside, the girls answering back to their questions. The girls had to move their hands up a few times, moving some twigs away from their faces so the sharp parts of the stick wouldn't cut their faces or hit them in the eyes so they wouldn't be able to see afterwards, knowing they'd need good eyesight to see in the darkness of the sewers they were now in.

Finally getting to the end of the small tunnel, seeing an opening that they'd both be able to stand up in and they'd both be able to fit in, Kie crawls down, a look of disgust on her face as she touched the water, Y/n soon following right after her. However, the girls didn't stand as they were still on their hands and knees, searching around in the water.

The occasional sound of Kie's comments echoed through for just them to hear as plastic cans and other garbage could be seen inside, to which Kie would complain about how shitty people were. Y/n shuddered in disgust at the sight of wasted food in the water, letting out a groan of disgust as well. Kie shuddered as well at the sight before they continued searching.

"I'm kind of waiting to see a clown with a red balloon in here." Y/n admits in a mumble, but it was loud enough for Kie to hear it.

"You know, I wouldn't be surprised if we did." Kie states with a shrug.
