In a Perfect World

In a perfect world, we'd ban fossil fuels

But we can't, because we lack the tools

Funding is squeezed, it isn't free

Our target won't happen immediately

In a perfect world, all would be fair

Everybody would get their share

People wouldn't sleep on the streets

No hogging food no extreme feasts

In a perfect world, we'd have less extinction

Cities and habitats living in cohesion

Varieties of species would still be here

Biologists wouldn't be living in fear

In a perfect world, we'd get what we want

Linear processes to get what we sought

No bias, no luck, just your merit

But that's just not the way the world is

In a perfect world, we'd never get teased

We'd have something suitable for every in-between

Us squares wouldn't have to squeeze into circle holes

We wouldn't have to wrongly do what we're told

In a perfect world, we wouldn't feel blue

When we're scrolling through the news

We'd have no gore, we'd have no war

Our governments would be knit, not torn

In a perfect world, it wouldn't be a struggle

We wouldn't fall and trip over hurdles

Through life, we'd cruise, we'd have nothing to lose

But what good is it if we'd always snooze?

I imagine a world that isn't so sour

But then I realize this world isn't ours

It isn't perfect, that's just how it is

We must make the most of this
