Elektra's pov:
I slipped behind the trees, shifted back into my human form, and returned to where Alexander waited. I gave him a big smile, which he returned warmly. He was dressed casually like the first time we met, though this time he looked a little more tired.
"Where did the rogues go?" I asked, puzzled.
"I didn't see any rogues," he replied calmly.
"But don't you smell that bad scent?" I pressed.
"Of course. That's what brought me here," he explained.
"Then what are you doing here anyway?" I asked.
"I'm returning home," he said coolly.
"The conference ended three days ago," I noted, causing him to laugh.
"Am I being interrogated, Miss ?" he teased.
"No, no, of course not!" I said, feeling a little embarrassed. I'm usually discreet, but with him, I can't help myself. I want to know everything. Even though he's a stranger, I feel so familiar with him, like I can speak freely without pretense.
"Relax, I'm just teasing," he said casually. "I took the chance to visit some old friends. I hadn't planned on passing through your territory—especially without permission from your Alpha..." he added with a smirk.
"Oh... I see," I murmured, a little disappointed.
"But in the end, this detour turned out to be a pleasant one," he said, smiling widely.
Oh, my Goddess, his smile—how beautiful it was! It was like his smile lit up the whole world. I could almost melt in it.
"Why's that?" I asked, though I already longed to hear his answer.
He stepped closer, stopping just inches away. His hands rested gently on my shoulders as he looked deep into my eyes and whispered slowly:
"Because I had the chance to see you again."
His words made me blush like a schoolgirl. My whole body trembled, and millions of butterflies danced in my stomach. The attraction between us was undeniable—even though we weren't mates. Why did we feel this way? No matter how much I searched for logic, there was none to be found.
We stayed like that for a few seconds, breathing in the quiet, our eyes locked. I was lost in the gray depths of his eyes—those two beautiful orbs that could make me lose my mind. He was undeniably handsome, but it wasn't just his looks that drew me in. There was something about his aura—so magnetic, so utterly charming—that I simply couldn't resist.
"I have to leave now. I don't want to anger your Alpha," Alexander said softly.
His words brought a pang of sadness, but what could I do? He was right. There was nothing here for him—especially since I wasn't his mate, and he knew it. I shouldn't have let myself hope, yet some part of me couldn't let go.
He took my hand gently and pressed a small kiss to it, his eyes never leaving mine. That simple kiss sent a shiver through my entire body. I didn't know how or why, but he always seemed to have this profound effect on me.
"Until we meet again," he whispered, then vanished into the forest.
I stood frozen, staring at the spot where he disappeared, thoughts swirling around him. I was upset, convinced this would be the last time I saw him. The distance between our packs was too great. When I realized that, my heart shattered into a thousand pieces.
I was devastated at the thought that I might never see him again. This man stirred feelings inside me I'd never known before. Was I really falling in love with him? But how? I'd only seen him twice. How could it happen so fast?
