Elektra's pov:

I got into the car with a heavy heart. Bartholomew's venomous words echoed in my mind. I knew he didn't mean well, but what if there was some truth in what he said?

"Where do I go now?" I asked myself.

"Go to Alexander. Ask him how he really feels about you!" Frostie's voice intervened in my head.

"Are you nuts? I can't just do that!" I argued back.

"Why not? If you ask him directly, all your doubts will vanish!" Frostie urged.

"I'm not ready to face the truth."

"Why prejudge his answer?"

"I'm not. I just can't handle it right now," I explained.

"So where are you going?"

"I honestly don't know..." I admitted, turning the key in the ignition and accelerating down the road.

Alexander's POV:

It had been hours since I last spoke to Elektra. I couldn't understand her behavior. What's wrong with her? Since we left the elder's cabin, she'd been distant, cold. I knew she was disappointed we hadn't found a solution to the curse, but together, I believed we'd figure it out. Isolation was no answer. But if she didn't want to be with me... what could I do? How could I convince her we could face everything — together?

"Alexander, here's the list of newborns you asked for," Steve's voice pulled me from my thoughts.

"Oh, yes..." I said, surprised I hadn't noticed him enter.

"Also, here are September's financial reports. Since catching Bartholomew and his gang, our economy's been rising."

"Glad to hear it," I replied, my voice cold.

"I see it," he said sarcastically.

"Steve, I'm really not in the mood."

"What's wrong, boss?" he said, putting on a serious face. I rolled my eyes. He always teased me.

"Elektra is pulling away."

"What?" he asked, locking eyes with me.

"Since she found out we're mates, she's been avoiding me. I can't lie — it hurts."

"Have you told her how you feel? Your concerns?"

"No. She won't let me."

"Sorry, man. Hope things get better."

"I do, too," I sighed.

Hours passed as I tackled the day's tasks. When night came, I was too exhausted to even walk to my room. Not from work — from Elektra's distant behavior, which was utterly nerve-wracking.

I collapsed onto my bed and let sleep claim me.

Elektra's POV:

After driving in circles for hours, I decided to return to the Black Shadow pack. I'd named David as Alpha, so I had no business there, but I wasn't ready to face Alexander. Bartholomew's words had shaken me more than I wanted to admit. I needed time, space, to think.

Deep down, I knew I couldn't trust Bartholomew — but maybe he had seen something. Maybe his venomous lies carried some bitter truth.

For three days, I locked myself in my room, turning everything over in my mind. Then a knock.

"I told you to leave me alone! Go away!" I snapped.

"Open up, Elektra," Roxanne's voice came from the other side.
