Elektra's pov:
The next day, the famous doctor John had mentioned arrived. He was a middle-aged werewolf with a calm and confident demeanor that immediately commanded respect. He greeted us with a nod, his eyes reflecting understanding and recognition.
-"Hello," he said, his voice steady but kind. "I am Dr. Rogers, and I assume you are our patient's mate. Am I right?"
-"Yes, sir," I replied, stepping forward. "I'm Elektra Rivers. Nice to meet you."
Dr. Rogers offered a small smile. "Miss Rivers, I must be honest with you—your partner's situation is complicated. Alex's wolf... is gone." His words hit me like a blow, but he quickly continued. "However, wolves are resilient, and there's still hope. I highly recommend you stay by his side as much as possible. Talk to him, touch him, and do whatever it takes to rekindle the bond between you two. It's the strongest link we have to bring his wolf back."
I nodded, clutching my hands tightly in front of me. "I'll do anything to help him," I said firmly.
Dr. Rogers nodded approvingly. "Good. I've already instructed the medical staff to grant you unlimited access to his room. I'll return tomorrow to assess any changes."
-"Thank you, Doctor," I said with deep gratitude. "Can I go in now?"
-"Naturally," he replied with a reassuring smile.
As he left, I turned to Roxanne. "You should rest now," I told her gently.
At first, she resisted, shaking her head stubbornly. "I'm staying here with you, Elektra. You shouldn't be alone in this."
-"You've done so much already," I insisted. "Please, get some rest. I'll call you if there's any news."
Eventually, she relented, though her concern was evident in the way she lingered for a moment before leaving.
I entered Alex's room and sat down beside him. His face was pale, and his breathing was shallow but steady. I reached out to take his hand in mine, feeling the coolness of his skin. "Alex," I whispered softly, my voice trembling. "I'm here. I'm not going anywhere. Please, come back to me."
I spent the entire day by his side, talking to him about anything and everything—our memories, our hopes, our future. When words failed, I simply held his hand, running my fingers over his knuckles and brushing my other hand through his hair. Eventually, exhaustion took over, and I fell asleep beside him on the bed, my head resting on his chest.
The next morning, I woke to the sound of footsteps entering the room. Dr. Rogers was back, accompanied by the two nurses from the day before. They wheeled in the strange machine I'd seen earlier, its tangled wires and blinking lights making it look almost alive.
-"We're going to measure his brain activity," Dr. Rogers explained as the nurses began attaching the wires to Alex's head. "This device will monitor his mind's responses. Your role, Miss Rivers, is crucial. Talk to him, touch him, and try to reach him. The screen will show us how his mind reacts."
I nodded, swallowing hard as I took my place beside Alex.
At first, the screen remained flat, the line showing no movement, no signs of life. My heart clenched painfully, but I refused to give up. I leaned closer, stroking his hair gently. "Alex," I said softly. "It's me, Elektra. I'm right here. You're not alone. Please, come back to me. I love you."
The line on the screen twitched faintly, barely noticeable.
Encouraged, I continued. "Remember all the plans we made? The future we talked about? I need you, Alex. I can't do this without you."
