Elektra's pov:
Our dinner tonight was a total disaster. Roxanne and Andros didn't get along at all, and their constant bickering drove me crazy. I still can't figure out what got into Roxanne. She treated Andros with outright hostility, and of course, he responded in kind.
As soon as we got back to my apartment, I opened the door wide, threw my keys on the table, and turned to Roxanne.
"Why did you treat Andros so badly?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
"What? I didn't!" she protested, trying to look innocent.
"Don't treat me like a fool. You clearly don't like him, and you made sure to show it every chance you got. Why?" I pressed.
"I... I didn't!" she insisted, refusing to admit it.
"Please, stop denying it. Just tell me the truth, for goodness' sake."
She finally snapped, "Okay! If you want to hear it — what happened with your mate? Have you forgotten him so easily?"
I shook my head, annoyed. "Alexander is the past. Don't you see?"
"But he's your mate!" she insisted, her voice sharp.
"He means nothing to me. I've moved on. All I want now is to leave that part of my life behind."
"My child, you'll never be truly happy without your mate," she said softly, but I could hear the conviction in her voice.
I bit back the sadness welling up inside me. "My mate doesn't care about me. I've been gone a year, and he never tried to find me. Didn't even send a single message. Maybe he's found someone else to warm his bed."
"How can you be so sure? Maybe he couldn't find you," she countered.
"Couldn't find me? Really? I didn't change my name or appearance. I didn't hide. I just left. He has all the connections he needs to find me if he wanted to."
"Maybe your leaving hurt him," Roxanne said quietly.
I laughed bitterly. "Oh, sure... he's crying buckets over my leaving," I said sarcastically.
"Don't be so cold," Roxanne scolded. "You say these things because you don't know everything."
"Don't know what? Tell me then!" I demanded.
"Alexander... he's not well since you left. He's... acting strangely."
I rolled my eyes. "Right... he's sobbing all day because of me. That's what you mean."
"Don't be so insensitive!" Roxanne snapped.
"You know what? I don't care what he's doing or not. End of discussion! And please, I'd appreciate it if you don't mention Alexander again."
"I... I have to tell you something—"
"No! I don't want to hear it. Enough!" I cut her off. "If you don't like Andros, fine. But the next time you meet him, don't insult him."
"I don't intend to," she said angrily.
"Oh, wonderful. At last, you realize that treating Andros badly isn't the way to go. I hope next time you'll be kinder."
"There won't be a next time. I'm leaving tomorrow. Good night," she said, voice cold and determined, then headed to her room.
The next morning, Roxanne was unusually quiet. We ate breakfast in complete silence. I drove her to the airport and said goodbye. It was clear she disapproved of the life I'd chosen, but honestly? I didn't care. This was my life, and I would live it my way, whether she liked it or not.
