Elektra's pov:
A whole year had passed since I left, and I was finally happy with my new life. I made the bold decision to leave the packs behind and live among humans. Halifax became my new home—a beautiful coastal city with salty sea air and charming streets. I landed a job at a large company and slowly built a circle of friends. My life was completely different now, and I loved how things had turned out.
Still, sometimes in the quiet evenings, memories of my old life and Alexander would creep into my mind. But I quickly pushed those thoughts aside. I had no intention of going back.
When Roxanne realized I wasn't coming back, she confessed something that shocked me: Alexander hadn't even tried to find me. That truth cemented my decision to move on for good—to live like any ordinary human, free from the shadows of my past.
Roxanne's pov:
I was truly happy that Elektra had managed to turn her life around. Living away from your mate is never easy—I know the pain it can bring—and I deeply admire Elektra for her courage and inner strength. That's why I hadn't spoken much about Alexander's condition lately. Word was, he wasn't doing well. Since Elektra left, he'd shut himself away, keeping to himself. There were many moments I almost told him the truth, but at the last second, I held back. Elektra didn't deserve to be hurt by my betrayal. I liked Alexander, yes, but Elektra was like a daughter to me. I loved her too much to cause her more pain.
Actually, Elektra invited me to visit her in Halifax next week—an invitation I accepted with joy. I told David I was visiting some old cousins at a nearby pack. Aside from me, no one knew where Elektra was.
The plane touched down, and within two hours, I arrived in Halifax. Elektra was waiting for me at the airport. At first, I barely recognized her. Her hair was cut short, and her clothes and style were completely different—she looked astonishing.
"Roxanne!" she shouted with enthusiasm as she rushed toward me, wrapping me in a warm hug.
"My girl, how much I've missed you!"
"Me too," she whispered, her voice full of emotion.
"Let's grab some coffee," she proposed, and together we headed to one of the airport cafés.
"So, how are you?" I asked as we settled into our seats.
"Actually, I'm quite well. I love my new life! Living among humans is very different," she said with a spark of excitement in her eyes.
"I see," I murmured, smiling softly.
"And how are things back at the pack? How's David?"
"Against all odds, David has proven to be a capable and worthy Alpha. He rebuilt the Black Shadow pack from the ground up and made it the strongest among the others. He earned their respect again and cleared our name. No one blames us anymore for Bartholomew's mistakes. A new era has begun."
"That's wonderful! I always believed David would succeed. He doesn't take after his father at all."
"He works incredibly hard," I replied. "He trains and leads every day—I think he follows your example."
"Nooo, don't underestimate him. He's even more impressive than he seems," she said proudly. "Anyway, today's my day off. How about a city tour? What do you think?"
"What are we waiting for?" I said, standing up, and we both laughed.
We had an incredible day. Elektra showed me the sights, shared stories about Halifax, and taught me so much about her new life. I carefully avoided bringing up Alexander—I didn't want to ruin the warm, happy mood between us. But sooner or later, the truth would have to come out.
Elektra's POV:
Seeing Roxanne again was refreshing. Even though I had started a new life here, part of me still missed the past. Roxanne was the bridge between who I was and who I'd become. I was glad to spend time with her, though I carefully avoided asking about Alexander. I was sure she still kept in touch with him, but after I left, I'd decided to leave everything behind. Now I see clearly that my bond with Alexander was doomed from the start. What I felt was probably just a crush. Maybe the Goddess was wrong to join us, or maybe we simply weren't worthy to keep such a gift.
But those were things of the past, and I was determined they wouldn't hold me back anymore. I had moved on, in every sense—both professionally and personally. In the last few months, I met someone: a kind and handsome man named Andros. Like me, he was a wolf who had left his pack to live among humans. We met at a company event and immediately felt a connection. After a few dates, we realized we had much more in common than just our nature.
I told Roxanne about Andros, and she was eager to meet him. So I planned a surprise dinner to introduce them.
Evening came. The sun had just set, painting the sky in soft pinks and oranges. Roxanne and I got ready to go out. I told her we'd be dining at a fancy restaurant and that I had a surprise for her.
We arrived, and at the main hall stood a man waiting for us. He smiled as we approached and, after confirming our reservation, a waiter escorted us to our table.
There, sitting and smiling warmly, was Andros. I returned his smile as Roxanne looked at us, confused.
"This is Roxanne, the one I've told you so much about, Andros," I said proudly.
Andros stood and extended his hand. "Nice to meet you, Mrs. Roxanne."
"Oh my goddess! Stop being so formal, both of you!" I laughed, breaking the tension. "Andros is my boyfriend, and Roxanne is like a mother to me."
"Your... boyfriend?" Roxanne asked incredulously.
"Yes!" I said with enthusiasm.
"Oh," Roxanne replied awkwardly, and her reaction troubled me. Why did she respond like that? Didn't she want me to be happy?
"Please, let's sit," Andros said smoothly. We took our seats and soon a waiter arrived to take our orders.
Once he left, the atmosphere grew tense. I tried to break the silence.
"You know, Andros is from the Crescent Moon pack and works in a company similar to mine."
"Oh, Crescent Moon pack... Why did you leave your pack?" Roxanne asked, curious.
"I wanted to travel, see the world, live among humans. I was tired of the strict laws and hierarchy packs impose."
"I see... You don't approve of your kind's ways?" Roxanne commented skeptically.
"No, that's not it. Living in a pack just doesn't satisfy me, that's all," Andros replied calmly.
"Roxanne, I don't like living in a pack either," I added, hoping to ease the judgment.
"That's nonsense! You've always loved packs. You were one of the most dedicated members. Everyone still talks about your and Alexander's great leadership," Roxanne shot back.
"And you're talking about her mate, Alexander?" Andros asked, making Roxanne freeze in surprise.
"He knows?" Roxanne looked at me in disbelief.
"Of course. I couldn't hide something so important."
"And... are you okay with that?" Roxanne asked Andros incredulously.
"Why not? I understand that though they're mates, they couldn't live their lives together," Andros said coolly, causing Roxanne to flush with irritation.
"How thoughtful of you!" she replied sarcastically.
Watching them, I realized Roxanne didn't have a positive view of Andros. The hostility between them grew, and my attempts to change the subject fell flat.
Thankfully, the waiter arrived with our food.
"Mmm, everything smells amazing," I said, diving into my meal. Andros and Roxanne followed, though they exchanged a few sharp glances.
The tension was thick, and I never expected Roxanne to react so coldly to someone important to me. What was going on with her? I made a mental note to ask her once we were home.
