when josh received the invitation, there was no way he could decline.

he and his cousins had always been fairly close, so now one of them was getting married, he was obviously going to show up.

he was grateful that he'd been given a plus one, though - he was very excited to bring simon along and finally introduce him to his extended family.

his parents had known about their relationship for quite a few months now, and they couldn't have been more understanding.

however, he didn't want to rush into telling too many people - the last time he introduced a boyfriend, he got dumped the week after and had to endure a surge of break-up queries at the next family event, that turned into a very long and painful evening.

so this time, he waited until he knew his relationship with simon was serious before letting people know, and although they'd only been together for six months, josh had never been more serious about anything in his life.

whilst he and simon had known each other for many years now, they'd been dancing around their feelings for quite a while and didn't want anything to happen just in case it ended up breaking the dynamic of their group.

that, and they weren't so sure if the others would be accepting of their relationship - they knew they'd likely be fine, but they could sometimes be a little weird about that sort of thing.

so, it was a sort of unspoken rule that the two were off-limits from each other, and neither of them made any attempt to be clear about what they felt for each other.

well, until the day josh decided that enough was enough and he stormed his way into simon's room when they had the house to themselves, pinning him down and kissing him like his life depended on it.

but still, six months on and nobody knew they were together except for their parents. hell, hardly anyone else even knew that they were both extremely gay, and didn't notice their pining for each other over the years either.

pretty much josh's entire extended family knew about him, but simon had yet to tell anyone else aside from his parents and brothers about his preferences. he'd only just fully come to terms with himself and still wasn't ready for that yet.

that did make it easier to hide at least - and they didn't mind keeping it a secret. they were currently enjoying the excitement of sneaking around and pretending like everything was normal, making up outrageous excuses to see how far they could push it before anyone questioned them.

but whilst josh was enjoying having simon all to himself, he was really hoping that at some point they would reveal themselves to everyone. maybe not the internet just yet, but he just wanted to be able to hold his hand and say i love you whenever he wanted to.
