it was the 10th anniversary of them first getting together coming up in a couple of weeks, and josh was planning to give simon a gift that he would never forget - for obvious reasons.
he'd been looking online very recently and as he'd been browsing through various articles and websites, he stumbled across something that made him do a double take.
after doing hours upon hours of research and exchanging emails, he was able to get simon signed up for something that could change his life forever.
you see, simon had a condition that he had dealt with his whole life - long story short, he was blind, and had been since birth.
and josh, after linking up with the right people, managed to get him on the list to take part in an extensive research study into curing people of their vision impairments.
it was all fairly new and experimental, and although they knew it was completely safe and was most likely going to work, they needed to complete several stages of trails in order for it to be approved.
despite never really saying it, josh knew that somewhere deep down simon wished to be able to gain his sight, even for just a little while, as he had no idea of the beauty the world held.
simon had often thought about being able to gaze into his husband's gorgeous eyes, of whom he'd been dating since they were 18 years old.
the beginning of their relationship was just like any typical cliche fanfiction.
after josh befriended him in a class when they were into their third year at secondary school, he took it upon himself to help the other, guiding him round in order to get him to be more independent from a carer's assist, and the pair became inseparable.
they would spend almost every day after school at each other's houses, doing various activities like homework or gossiping about the latest secondary school drama.
after being friends for over 3 years, and having both discovered their sexualities on their own over the time they'd know each other, one thing led to another after a drunk kiss at a friends 18th birthday went slightly too far and they ended up married almost 7 years later.
it wasn't a large ceremony, celebrated with close friends and family in the middle of summer on one of the hottest days of the year that left everyone sweating and resulted in many changes of clothes, but it was a beautiful outdoor venue surrounded by luscious green trees and nature before the newly weds took a flight to spend a weeks honeymoon by the sea.
yet simon wasn't able to see any of this happen for himself, though he claimed that his other senses made it the most enjoyable time he could have ever asked for.
