striding down the warm concrete pavement, cigarette in hand, josh was craving nothing more than to be at home in his london apartment.

it's not like the journey to the record store was at all far away, just a short 5-minute walk round the corner, however the other people in the streets were stressing him out more than anything else.

the annoying tourists snapping polaroid pictures, businessmen rushing past him to get to their mediocre boring jobs, obnoxious happy shoppers with too much spending money to waste.

well, you could say that that was his own fault for choosing to live in a high-rise building in the middle of a busy city centre, but he claimed it was for the practical purposes more than the people.

not to mention a cheapskate like josh would never splash out extra money on a car, especially with the parking fees, or even a black cab fare, leaving him only with the option to walk through the crowds.

yes, the 80s looked cheap in hindsight, but the only thing that josh would tap into his bank account for extra money was his music.

and his cigarettes, but they were deemed as essential to him. after all, it didn't matter in those days whether they slowly damaged your health or not.

hence, that was why he was on his way back after visiting the local record store.

he read in yesterday's newspaper that his favourite punk rock artist had released his new album on vinyl, and josh had immediately slipped on his leather jacket and made his way down there.

however, what with the guy being so popular, he had just missed out on the final one, and the store owner said they wouldn't be back in stock for a couple of days to come.

the disappointment got to him a little, and so he wasn't in the best of moods as he reached the foyer of his building, but he kept reminding himself that it was only a few more days to wait.

the building had a reception area, because the bottom half of the floors were rented out as hotel rooms. being as cheap as they were, it was a popular tourist hotspot, so it was rumoured throughout the residents as being a moneymaking scheme for the building owners.

josh was just happy that he lived far enough up from the hotel section that he was never disturbed by whatever dodgy activities were going on down there, nor did any loud music or drunken shouting ever keep him up at night.

he took another drag as he stood waiting for the elevator, pressing the button multiple times out of annoyance, it turning green and chiming a bell to signal that the rickety thing was coming to get him.
