Chapter Six (Edited)
General P.O.V (Andrew)
The following morning started with Andrew having a very big headache. His head was acting as if it was being hammered from the inside. As if something was trying to get out. His temperature became higher and his skin flushed a pale red, with occasional coughs that made his chest sour with pain.
His mother was beside him with a wet rag, dipping it again into the bowl of cool water, squeezing it a little to remove the excess and placing it on his head. Rubbing it all over his face, before repeating the process of dipping, squeezing and then rubbing it all over his body.
Andrews's tongue felt as sour as the rest of his body and tasted very bitter, he couldn't even bear to swallow his own saliva to keep his throat moist and stop feeling itchy. His mother had given him Ibuprofen to reduce his headache and temperature but it did not seem to work. Andrew didn't even have strength to get up from his own bed and he needed to go badly. His mother called the family doctor to take care of him.
From the bits and bobs Andrew had gathered from his mother while she used the rag to try and reduce his temperature, Dr. Hutchkins had been the doctor to look after his mom's family here in Vampville. He was well known and also well acquainted with Andrew's late grandfather and mother.
When the doctor finally arrived, his mother left to make some chicken soup as Andrew had requested and she hoped and prayed as she ran about the kitchen preparing it, that he doesn't vomit again and this time, the food will actually sit in her child's belly.
The rather forty-ish looking doctor asked Andrew how he was feeling and he explained the best he could before he coughed, leading to a rising pain in his chest region. Andrew couldn't believe that this was the man that treated his grandfather who had died about five years ago. Knowing the man, he wouldn't have left someone so young to look after him. If the stories, his mom told were true, this man should be at least in his seventies or eighties by now. Or even dead. Something was fishy. And the man smelled rather fishy too. Andrew wondered if he had fish for breakfast before coming to see him.
The doctor left soon after, not before prescribing a thousand drugs that Andrew knew he wasn't going to finish. He had prescribed a drug he called Guaifenesin for his coughs and Lumefantriane for malaria. He was also given an intravenous infusion of quinine. He was also given a few injections.
School for the day was obviously cancelled for him seeing as he was sick and he felt horrible. He hasn't even spent a month in his new school and he was already missing a day. He got a call from Ruby in the afternoon, just as he was starting to feel better. He was going to tell the group about the crazy things happening to him, even the dreams but it could wait. They chatted and the group said they would see him after school. They cut the call as the bell signifying the beginning of lessons after the lunch break.
By evening Andrew was feeling much better and had taken another bowl of chicken soup and the drip was almost finished. He couldn't move around much as the drip was hung on a nail that was hammered to the wall of his room.
His friends came to see him as promised and Ruby even brought him some notes that she had helped copy for and he was very grateful. They had brought him gift cards, flowers and chocolate which he couldn't have that the moment, seeing as he wasn't yet himself fully. They told him everything that had happened in school that day and they talked and gossiped until it was time for each of them to go to their various homes. They bid him good bye and promised to come see him again tomorrow if he hasn't yet returned to his usual energized and chatty state.
In the morning Andrew was feeling quite well but he knew he wasn't completely okay but he was certified by both himself and his mom (after much convincing) that he was alright to go to school. He was made to promise by his other not to stress himself too much and not much later he found himself in the school, today was the day he was going to tell his friends about the strange happenings.
