The night was young, and thus my mission just beginning. Weapon in hand, the task was brutal and would take everything I had to succeed.

Failure was not an option. It's,  do or die!

Crouched down, I pressed my face against the glass of the local bakery inspecting the goods. Then, awestruck, I began making notes nodding. "Look at the fluffiness of the bread. It must be light yet crispy. The texture, everything about it is perfect!"

Standing up, I began glancing over my notes, ready to jot down everything about the cakes next. "How did the loaf of bread first come into motion? Someone had to come up with the idea of combining flour, yeast and water to create the ultimate dish that would change the course of history forever. Truly whoever they were should go down in history as a hero."

"It is said the bread was invented at around 3000bc." A girl pointed out, startling me. "It's hard to pinpoint exactly who, but that is estimated to be the time range."

"I see." I nod, writing that down. "How fascinating."

The ginger girl nodded, staring blankly at me. "If you want to know more about bread, please feel free to ask."

"Umm? I'll pass, thanks, friend," I mutter, walking away, feeling off about the whole thing.

The girl quickly stood in front of me, smiling. "What did you call me?"

"Eh?"

"You called me friend. Are we friends?"

"I mean, it wasn't an actual confirmation; see it as more of a saying, a friendly way to tell someone to fu- Yes, we can be friends..." I sigh, holding my tongue. "Who are you anyway?"

"My name is Penny."

"That's it?" I question.

"Was I meant to say anything else?"

Shaking my head, I closed my notebook. "No, no, that's fine. I'm Y/N; nice to meet you, I suppose."

"It is splendid indeed. I've never had a friend before!"

"I wonder why..."

"Say Y/N, why are you spending so much time inspecting the bread? Why not go inside and buy one?"

"No, no. This isn't about buying bread." I point out, putting my notebook away. "Truth be told, I dream of opening my own bakery one day. Leaving my violent past behind for something simple and nice as baking is a pleasant wish of mine. It brings joy to everyone, and well, you know. The bread tastes good."

"I wouldn't know; I've never eaten bread."

"Oh, your allergic to gluten." I nod, stepping back, trying to get away from the strange girl. "If you don't mind, Penny, I was meant to meet my friends in a moment."

Penny stared blankly at me, her eyes flashing purple for a brief moment. "You cannot hide who you are, Denial."

"What did you say?" I whisper, my hand twitching. I quickly snapped from my trance as Yang almost ran me over with her motorbike. "Yang? What the hell are you doing here?"

Penny smiled, saluting me. "Salutations, Y/N's friend."

Yang lowered her glasses looking at Penny strangely. "Who's she?"

"I am Y/N's friend."

"Right, I was actually looking for you, Y/N, do yo-."

"Yes! 100% yes, let's go." I interrupt her getting on her bike. "Drive now."

Yang didn't give it much thought before driving off. "Who the hell was she?"

Looking back, I saw Penny waving as I shivered, feeling off. "I have no idea..."
