The next day, she was surprised to see Johnathan and Ino in the makeshift training room in the basement.
"Good morning," she greeted.
"Morning. I'm going to train both of you today. I was told that you were starting to cast the cloaking spell. That must mean that you're getting better at your suppressing spell," Johnathan informed her.
She was confused. "Where is Mateo?" she asked because he was always here before she arrived for the training.
"He didn't want to wake you up last night. He went out to get some scrolls and books in our last hide-out."
That was a surprise.
He told her that he would help her until she could undo the suppressing spells in seconds. But how can he do that when he is not around?
There was a vile feeling creeping inside her. "Oh. Are those books important?"
Johnathan was laying out the scrolls with the instructions on the table. "Yes, because you're starting to learn magic. You'll need those and we could put them in the manor's library for safekeeping."
"It's also a surprise. We've been talking about how I'm going out to collect all the remaining books and scrolls. Then last night, he suddenly volunteered to take my place," Ino told her.
"Did he say why?"
"He said that I can use the time to train instead," he answered.
"I agree with Mateo. I can train you both in the coming days and focus on the basement. At least we won't waste any time. Don't worry, Von and Annette made sure that he was escorted," Johnathan added.
"Did Karyl also know that he left?"
"I think so. She was in the library last night talking to her husband on the telephone," Johnathan answered while pulling up his sleeves.
Mateo made a reasonable explanation. But she still felt... Irritated. How come he told everybody else but he did not even wake her up?
But, why did she care so much?
Maybe because Jugger and Theodore would always tell her of their departure. Even Irina would go to her room just to inform her of when she was leaving.
"Okay, you two. Come closer to the table. We'll begin," Johnathan said.
She gave all her attention to what Johnathan was saying. Like Mateo, he was patient towards her and Ino. So when they were done, he also commended her development.
But the compliment felt strange, like it was incomplete.
She did not want to dwell in it longer so after her lunch, she did some meditation outside. Soon, her sparring partner came and they started their session. The whole day, she was so busy that her mind did not allow her to think of anything else other than her tasks at hand. But when the evening came, her mind wandered to uncharted places.
"What is happening to me?"
"I'm not sure how to answer that Miss," Nadia said, startling her.
"I did not realize that I had voiced my thoughts. Have you been there all this time?"
"Not really. I just came back from downtown. That's why I'm late to deliver this to you," the young maid said as she handed an envelope to her.
Recognition flashed in her eyes as she instantly knew who the letter was from.
"Thank you for delivering this Nadia."
"I should've handed it to you this morning but Mister Von had a lot of tasks for us. I'm sorry."
