No one POV
The smoke of cigarettes filling the air, a soft melody echoing.
Brook was focused on writing something while Jack was laying on his chest, listening to his heartbeat and his chest rising and falling.
The boy was almost asleep when Brook crumpled up the sheet of paper he was working on, throwing it across the room.
"Fuck"
That woke Jack up.
"Sorry, love. Didn't mean to wake you up"
Brook put his head back down on his chest.
"What were you writing?"
"I'm working on a story but it's shit"
"You'll get inspiration..." Jack yawned, his eyes half-closed.
Jack ended up sleeping on Brook while the boy kept writing.
He had a plan, a story in his mind and he wanted to put it on paper.
But it turned into an obsession, an unhealthy one.

After 3 days of not seeing Brook, Jack went to his apartment right after his shift but found an apocalyptic scene.
Paper balls piled up in a corner, papers on the ground and taped on the wall, the apartment pitch black, the curtains not even letting in a single sunray.
"Brook?" Jack called confused.
"Brook, where are you?"
The boy walked into the bedroom, sheets on the floor stained with some red drops...blood.
"Brook!"
The boy was at his bathroom sink, trying to medicate his hand.
"Are you ok? What happened?"
"Cut myself but I'm ok, just an accident" Brook said with all the calm of the world.
"Here, let me help you"
Jack did the job properly this time, disinfecting and bandaging everything up.
"Thank you"
Brook kissed his cheek and walked out like everything was ok.
"What happened in here?"
"Oh, nothing. Was just working on my story..."
Brook poured some tea but there was none left.
"Ok...have you eaten something?"
"I'm making tea, do you want some?"
Brook was acting weird.
"Baby look at me" Jack grabbed his face, eyes blood red.
"When was the last time you slept?"
"Yesterday...no no today. What day is it today?"
Brook didn't even know.
"Ok, now we go to bed" Jack dragged him to the bedroom but the boy refused to.
"I have to finish my story!"
"I know but you also have to sleep"
"No!"
Brook got away from Jack's hold to sit at his desk.
He was freaking Jack out, who didn't know what to do.
It was like Brook was on drugs or something and the raven boy was scared.

As predicted, Brook fell asleep on the desk so Jack picked him up and put him in bed, after changing the sheets.
He looked at his boy and wondered what happened, what happened the last 3 days to turn Brook into that.
Jack decided to stay at Brook's to help, he was more like a maid than a boyfriend but that's how relationships work.
Sometimes a person needs you and you have to be there for them.
But one night Brook freaked out.

"No! It's all wrong!"
Something fell on the ground.
"You need to shut the fuck up! Let me work!"
Jack woke up, it was 4 am, confused and still half asleep.
Brook was tearing apart the papers on the wall, crying, screaming.
The boy blocked his movements holding him.
"Let me go!" The blonde boy screamed.
"Baby calm down. It's ok" Jack said with his shooting voice.
"Shh..."
Brook cried even more in Jack's chest.
"I know baby but you're fine now"
"They didn't like my work"
"Maybe it's best if you stop for today..." Jack suggested hoping for a yes.
Brook hold on for dear life, as everything was going to go adrift while Jack kept him anchored.
They rocked back and forth for a while till Brook calmed down.
And it was like that for the whole week.

One day he freaked out cause he thought someone touched his work as they were spying on him.
Then he stayed up a whole night walking through the apartment, talking to himself but it was like he was having a conversation with multiple people.
It got worse when he started to attack Jack.
"You touched my work!"
"I just tidied up a bit babe"
"Who are you working for?"
He pinned the boy to the wall and Jack was really scared.
"Brook, you're being paranoid"
The boy let go flipping him off.
"Don't touch my work ever again..." he warned.

"Where did you take me?" Brook asked once they arrived in front of a huge building.
"It's a clinic. I want you to get help"
"Clinic? I don't need one...I have you"
Brook couldn't process what was happening.
"I'm not enough and you know it"
Jack was on the verge of crying cause he didn't want this but it was the best solution.
"They are gonna take care of you, help you get better"
The raven boy handed Brook a bag.
"I grabbed all your work so you can finish it in there"
That day Brook felt "normal", he didn't have any weird or worrying behavior so Jack saying that broke his heart.
"What happened to forever?"
"Sometimes the world doesn't go the way you want" Jack faced way while saying that to hide his tears.
"No no no please, don't leave me here. I'm sorry..." Brook begged but the decision was already made.
"I'm sorry...I love you. More than anything"
Jack kissed his forehead and looked at him one last time before leaving.

Jack read out loud to Chris, who was sitting on the carpet listening carefully.
"Will you ever stop reading that to her?" Maddie, his best friend, asked from the kitchen.
"What's wrong with reading this?"
Jack loved the author, he discovered him thanks to Chris.
"This weekend he'll be in town for some copy signatures and it's his first time out in public. Please can I go?" Chris begged her mother, who looked at Jack for help.
"Don't look at me. You know I'm on Chris' side"
Maddie rolled her eyes and mumbled a quiet "fine".
So Jack brought Chris to the copy signatures, he definitely did it for Chris.
"Look there's his last book! Can we get it?"
"Can you stop with the puppy eyes?"
Jack always had a soft spot for Chris, she was like the daughter he never had.
Eventually, it was their turn and when Jack met the author, the book fell from his hands making a loud thud.
"Tell everyone to go away. I'll be back here tomorrow" he ordered with a severe tone and it was how Jack remembered it.
When everyone was gone Brook spoke.
"Is...is she your child?"
The writer looked at Chris, who was pretty confused.
"I- no, she's not" Jack managed to reply.
"Hi...what's your name love?" Brook asked with a smile that Jack forgot a long time ago.
"Chris"
"That's a lovely name. I see that you have my new book, I hope you enjoy it"
"Jack always reads them to me"
That warmed Brook's heart.

"I see your doing better..."
"Thanks to you...I stayed at the clinic for a couple of years"
"I'm happy for you"
And Jack really meant it.
Even though their relationship had some downs it didn't mean that it was all bad, Jack will always love Brook.
"So you've been reading my books..."
"Thanks to her"
Jack looked at Chris, who was wandering around the book shop.
"I always thought you would make a great dad"
Jack said nothing cause he always wanted a child, with Brook.
"I wanted to say that I'm sorry...I wasn't myself. They diagnosed me with a form of schizophrenia..."
"...I didn't know what I was doing and you didn't deserve everything I put you through, you deserve someone who loves you-"
"I had someone who loved me"
And it was true, Jack knew that deep down Brook loved him all the way.
"You deserve better Jack..."
"I had better but I left you alone and ran away"
Jack looked at the pile of Brook's new books.
"Maddie taught me not to run away from life. Chris' father left her and Maddie had to raise her alone, till I came"
"You always know how to help people"
"I left you alone Brook. I should have stayed by your side so I'm the one who's sorry"
Brook went to hug him, he always felt at home in his arms.
Jack had people who loved him in his life but no one who loved him as much as Brook did.
"I love you...never stopped" Brook said giving him another copy of his new book, then left the shop right after.

Was it a good idea to knock?
Or should he just leave?
Before he could make a decision, the hotel room door opened.
"Jack...didn't know you were coming"
"I-I should have warned you"
"No, it's ok. Come in"
Brook picked up his phone and told his assistant to push back all his meetings for the day.
"You have to stop putting your life on standby for me"
"You're more important than my job" Brook said truthfully.
Silence settled in the room, not even the sound of traffic audible.
"Ok, I have to ask...why am I here? Why did you put the address in the book?"
Jack had to know.
"I-I don't know. I wanted to spend more time with you..."
Jack looked at Brook's desk, pills scattered everywhere.
"Is it like the beginning? I mean is it as bad?"
"Just when I have to take my depression pills"
Jack didn't even wanna picture Brook dealing with this alone.
So he cried, he cried cause he pictured it and it was awful.
"It's ok. I'm ok"
Brook engulfed him trying to stop Jack's sobs.
"Look at me, I'm ok"
Jack's eyes were glossy and his lips an intense red due to all the chewing.
"Stop biting your lip, they are gonna bleed"
Jack moved his head but Brook grabbed his chin.
"Stop"
The boy forgot when it was the last time someone looked at him with that look.
He didn't stop so Brook closed the gap to make him stop.
He tasted a bit of blood but he missed that, he missed Jack.
He could have been the most fucked up human being and Jack would still love him.
They separated but the raven boy leaned in again and Brook laughed.
"So eager uh?"
"Shut up"
Jack hid his face in Brook's shoulder.

"Stay with me tonight?"
They were laying on the bed, surrounded by white spotless sheets, the rest of their dinner on the desk among Brook's pills and paperwork.
"Just for tonight?"
"For forever if you're still up to it"
And Jack stayed forever.
