Jason has no options. If he tries to use his powers to save Jarred he might not be fast enough to get him away from the gun before it fires. Even if he somehow managed to do it what would they do then?. There's a dozen men waiting at the bottom of the stairs and a dozen still standing behind Jarred.

"You. Come with me" A man grabs Jason by the shoulder and leads him back the way they came.

He stops at mom and dads office. The door is slightly opened. Jason sneeks a peek inside and sees a man standing at the window looking out at the front yard. The man stands behind Jason and jabs him with his gun. Jason walks through the door and the man shuts it behind him.

The room is so silent that all Jason can hear is own hasty breathing and irregular heart beat. His chest still hurts but he can feel his body stitching himself back together. He stands up straighter and tries to hide the pain. The man turns around and fixes his gaze on Jason.

He's the most intimidating person Jason has ever seen. He towers above him his body built like well carved stone. The man inspects Jason from head to toe with eyes that seem to look through Jasons front and see his pain.

"I thought you would be taller" the man says.

His voice makes Jasons insides go cold. It's more like a growl than an actual voice.

"Who are you?" Jason is surprised the words found their way out of his mouth.

The man takes a step back as if to get a better look at Jason. His eyes land right on Jasons healing chest.

"You and your friends have caused my men quite the trouble."

Jason can't move. The mans words feel like they're turning every part of his body to ice.

"What is it that you want from my family?" Jason asks.

The mans face darkens and Jason sees anger in his eyes so pure it makes him back away in fear.

"THEY ARE NOT YOUR FAMILY!" The mans voice booms around the room.

Every cell in Jasons body wants him to turn and run as fast as he can. But although his body is frantic Jasons mind is calm. He can tell from the size of his body and the way he stands leaving himself open to attack that Jason cannot overpower him and he knows it. Everything about this man is a display of his power.

He doesn't need to say anything, but the way he talks and even stands says all he needs to say.

"Let us go" Jason says.

He wants to sound intimidating but his words come across as more of a plea than a demand.

"I've gone through a lot of trouble to talk to you. It would be a waste to leave without you hearing what I have to say."

As he speaks the man clenches his fists and Jason can see them strain as he digs his fingernails into his palms.

"When you've said what you want to say, will you let us go?"

The man looks at Jason again and smiles. The smile only serves to make him more threatening.

"Once I have said what I want to say you won't want to leave." He says.

......................

"My name is Maxwell." The man says. "They named you Jason, correct?"

Jason swallows hard.

"Yes. Jason Knight."

The man steps closer to the window.

"What have they told you of your history. Where you were born, wgo you're parents are?" Maxwell says.
