Author's Note: Hi there! This is my 4th story on here, but whether you have read/are reading the other 3 or are brand new, having stumbled upon my story, thank you for joining me! Writing has become an outlet/escape for me, so I really hope you enjoy reading these just as much. Feel free to comment on your favorite parts and mention your thoughts. I truly love reading what you have to say! That being said, welcome to 'Brother's Burden'!

*Warnings: Language. Not a crazy amount, but there will be cursing.

One of the perks of working for your brother, is that you can choose your own hours most of the time. You get everything done that you need to, so the time of day you actually complete work does not matter. Ever since college, you've labeled yourself as 'nocturnal' anyway, so finishing work and getting a coffee around 11am was not unusual.

You exit your go-to coffee shop, iced coffee in hand, when you hear a loud rumble above you and see people scurrying about. When you look-up, you see the Helicarrier flying above the buildings. "For fucks sake," you sigh and dial your phone, which only rings once before being answered. "Pep?"

"They're all up there," is your sister-in-laws response. Well, future sister-in-law. If your brother, Tony, doesn't marry Pepper, he's doomed. She's the only one who can give him a run for his money, except you of course.

"Do you hear the shock in my voice?" you take a sip from the straw.

"Maybe you can call your brother and talk some sense into him," Pepper sighs into the phone.

"Please, if anyone were able to do that, they would be the most powerful being in the universe. Even I've been trying to do that for over 20 years," you say, causing the pair of you to laugh.

"While that may be true, I've already tried, so you're up, Y/N," you hear Pepper moving throughout the tower.

"Allllllllllright. See you soon, Pep," you both hang-up and then you dial your brother.

Again the phone is answered quickly, "Pepper already tried, Y/N."

"Hello, brother. I'm doing alright, thanks. Yes, my week has been ok. And you?" you reply sarcastically.

Before Tony can reply, you hear another voice in the background, "The tesseract belongs on Asgard; no human is a match for it."

"You're not going alone!" another person chimes in.

"Hang-on, Y/N," Tony leans away from the phone. "You gonna stop me?"

"Put on the suit; let's find out," the other voice continues.

"I'm not afraid to hit an old man," Tony says placing the phone down.

"You're old too!" you yell back. "Would you two cut it out?!" you try to speak loud enough, but neither can hear you.

"Put on the suit," you hear the voice repeat himself.

"Oh, my God!" Banner says; that voice you recognize. You've met Bruce a few times already.

And then you hear and see the explosion on the Helicarrier in the sky.

"Get to the tower!" Now Tony is talking to you again. "Find Pe..."

The line goes dead, "Shit!" You take off running to Stark Tower.

About 2 minutes later, you walk into the tower and see Pepper, "One day I'll be able to get a coffee and finish it in peace."

"Doubtful," she smirks at you as you approach. "Maybe if you move. Or if you weren't related to Tony."

"But then my life would not nearly be this entertaining," you wink.

Happy joins the two of you, "Plus, you bring some much needed sanity for Pepper and I."

"YES, that!" Pepper agrees. "Happy, what's going on?"

His face becomes serious, "Tony says to get to the safe room." You walk over to the elevators, "Scan your card when you get in, and it'll bring up the hidden panel."

Pepper and Happy step inside, but you realize the now empty coffee is still in your hand, "Hang-on. I'll meet you up there." You go to the nearest garbage can and toss it out, but when you turn around, the door is closed and you hop into another elevator.

When you scan your card, nothing happens; the screen does not pop-up. Nothing. So you try again. Still nothing, "Best technology in the world, Tony, and an elevator still won't work."

Suddenly the elevator starts moving, going-up on its own. When you read the final location, it says: "Top Floor".

Seconds later, it stops and you hesitantly step out, hearing voices coming from the main room.

"Because if we can't protect the Earth, you can be damned well sure we'll avenge it," that's Tony you know for sure.

You turn the corner slightly and see a man walking towards Tony. All you see is green, gold, and black. He's quite tall, at least a head over Tony, with dark, black hair.

"How will your friends have time for me, when they're so busy fighting you?" the man says. You can't see it, but it has to be his voice.

The man pokes a stick with a glowing blue end, at Tony's chest. He does it a few more times, and you hear the clank when it comes in contact with the arc reactor.

"It should work..." he holds it there for a few more seconds.

"Well, performance issues, you know?" you roll your eyes at Tony's response.

Next thing you see is Tony being grabbed by the throat and thrown across the room. That's one way to handle his sarcasm.

"JARVIS? Anytime now," Tony says before being picked up again.

"You will all fall before me," the man says, before, this time, throwing Tony out of the window.

Your eyes go wide in shock, and you turn quietly, but quickly, back to the elevator.

"Oh dear. Someone is in the wrong place," you hear the same voice now close behind you, causing your hand to freeze halfway to the elevator button.
