::: March | Thursday :::

The past few days, work had been fairly okay for June. Her relationship with Kellon was going well too. . . if him being aloof and the sex not being as appetizing could be considered 'going well'.

She knew something was bothering him. She figured it had something to do with those men at the center, and whoever 'Razor' and 'Z' was. However, she didn't press him any further for an answer. She didn't want to get shunned by him again. Furthermore, it seemed as if the only person he would put his trust in about the issue was Adrian, his closest friend who was practically a blood brother.

Even Deidre had picked up on his bad mood. . .

[flashback. . .]

"Usually I'd make it sauté longer-" June had said to Deidre.

She was in the Cross' kitchen proving to the woman that she knew her way around a kitchen.

The woman was really trying her best to befriend June. June appreciated that. She'd never had a good relationship with an in-law before and she thankful that Deidre was coming around.

During the short time they'd gotten to better know each other, June had learned that Deidre was a stay at home wife, who was a website designer in her free time. She also loved gardening.

Initial coldness and flawed views aside, Deidre could be a wonderful woman. Most times, anyway. . .

"Where yu going, Leilani?" she'd stepped away from June to eye her daughter. "I hope it's not anywhere with that Ashanti. She rubs me the wrong way."

Leilani had sighed. "Mommy, yufi get fi know her. She's nice-"

Deidre had scowled. "I'm not so sure. Something is off about that girl. . . the way she looks at you makes me sick! You're just too much of a sweetheart to realize-"

Leilani had rolled her eyes. "Me tell yu nuh talk bout her like that."

Deidre had scoffed and walked back over to June who was quietly eavesdropping. "You stay there. As long as yu don't mek dat girl steer yu the wrong way-"

Leilani had hissed her teeth. "Bye, June."

"No problem," she offered her a pitiful smile. June wanted so badly to say something to Deidre about how she was hurting Leilani. She just couldn't seem to find the right words. She feared if she said something, she'd prematurely expose Leilani's secret and add fuel to the growing rift between mother and daughter.

"June, yu ready?" Kellon had said upon entering the kitchen.

June had looked back to the stove. The sautéed shrimp were ready. "Yes," she'd said. "Have a good day, Deidre."

"I thought you guys would stay and have dinner-"

"Can't," Kellon had said, walking away. "Busy."

Deidre had frowned. Usually, her son would stay for her no matter how busy he was. . .
