Leilani looked at her nails and curiously asked, "How things between you and Phiya?"
June sighed. "Sure yu already know."
Leilani gave her a sad smile. "Why yu nuh just talk to him?"
Because somethings very hard fi mi talk boh, no matter how much of an understanding person he is. . . June sighed again. "I have other things worrying about right now."
Leilani looked behind June with a smirk. "Well, guess now yu nuh have a choice."
June looked behind her, her world coming to a halt when she saw him. . . Kellon Cross. He had this ability to demand the attention of everyone in any room he was in. But his focus was only her. It always was. It always would be.
She licked her dry lips, suddenly feeling parched. His lips watched the movement.
He came over to her, paid for Leilani's mani. His fingertip grazed her own, sending a chill down her body. She missed that feeling of excitement. It only came about when she was around him.
"I'll be outside," he told her.
She simply nodded. A part of her shivered with excitement - she'd finally get to be around him after being away so long. A part of her cowered in fear - Kellon Cross was not all that he'd portrayed.
She tidied up her workstation and went outside. She stood outside the vehicle, waiting for him to exit.
"Yu still vex wid me?" he asked.
"I don't know," she replied.
She was having conflicting feelings about everything. She felt as if she was going insane. She only wanted her son. She'd decided that she couldn't wait until Friday, Odane had kept up his selfishness long enough. So she was going to his school today to see if he'd at least been showing up all this time. With the knowledge that Odane was using again, she was scared for her son's life.
"Me nuh understand wa me do wrong. . . The man disrespect yu, June."
June shrugged. "I can't speak about this right now, Kellon," she told him. "I have somewhere to be."
He opened the door. "Mek mi carry yu," seeing her hesitance, he wiped a hand down his face. "June, me nago do yu nun. Go in and stop being stubborn."
Complying albeit still hesitant, she stepped into his vehicle. He sat beside her.
"I'm going to Zach's school, Leo," she informed the driver.
Kellon sighed as he watched June practically attach herself to the door. Usually she'd be in his arms. "See me here ino," he said. "Ask me wa yu waa ask me cause June me really cya badda wid the hide and seek weh yaa play from wa day."
"Why did you have a gun?"
"For protection," he explained. "Me nuh trust Zeke, mafi watch me three points."
"If yu ina wrongs, I can't be with you," she answered. "I have a child to think about-"
"Just know seh unu protected," he seriously stated. "Now fi you. . ." he tossed a file onto her lap.
