summer prepared herself as she pulled into the driveway, knowing her mother was sitting on the couch inside, waiting for her to get home. her mother was always the one to be strict, dave was chill.

summer made the walk of shame into the house, taking her shoes off at the door and putting her keys in the little dish. her mother stood up, looking at her with disappointment.

"what were you thinking! it's 5:00 in the morning! you have to "get up" for school in an hour!" her mother yelled, the same feeling hit summer that always hits her when her mother- or anyone, yells. specifically at her.

tears welled in summer's eyes, she took a second to look at her phone lock screen, unexpectedly seeing the date and remembering what happened.

"you are so much like your father it's not even funny" shianne scolded, sipping wine while summer broke into heavy tears. her mother laughed, thinking summer was trying to get out of trouble. "nice try hun, you're not 7 anymore"

"it's been 12 years mom," she cried, falling to her knees and ripping the beanie off her head. shianne knew what had been 12 years, but she didn't care, she stopped caring a while ago.

"fucks sakes summer, get your ass up your gonna be 18 soon, you gotta give it up man!" shianne added before gulping down the rest of the wine. summer simply stood up and looked at her mother with disgust, trying to build the courage.

"I'm sorry I'm fucking sad that I haven't seen my father or baby sister in 12 fucking years. because of you!" Summer's bottled anger slipped out at the end, but she didn't care. after so many years, her mother never seemed to care that her daughter disappeared.

shianne simply looked at her daughter and walked closer, the alcohol kicking in. without hesitation, shianne punched her daughter in the face. shianne stood there with a smug look, thinking what she had just done was a good thing.

"I wish it was you who left." summer said before walking past and shoulder checking her mother on her way upstairs.

the second she entered her room, summer kept crying. not from physical pain, but the pain of August 21.

*next morning*

summer sat in front of her vanity, caking on makeup to cover the bruise her mother left on her eye.

summer was used to fighting with her mother, arguments were very common for them. but usually, dave stopped it before anything got anywhere close to physical. though shianne didn't seem like the type to ever hit her kids, summer kinda expected it.

"fuck" summer mumbled, the bruise not covering very well. she ended up deciding to just wear a hoodie so she can just pull the hood up over her cheek. the result was her favorite black ransom hoodie, grey sweats, and her glasses. she sighed while bending over to pull her vans onto her feet, ignoring the continuous buzzing coming from her phone. it was lily, calling in to see if she is still picking her up. summer didn't want to answer, because she would immediately recognize something was off and then see the bruise.

summer walked downstairs with her hood up, ignoring the adults in the kitchen trying to talk to her. she just went straight to her car and drove off.

in school, summer was standing near her locker, taking ibuprofen to help the swelling, it looked like she battled a jellyfish on her cheek.

she also knew it was only a matter of time until lily found her, so summer stuck her head as far into the locker as she could.

summer ducked her head out to check if lily was near, hoping she wasn't so she could get to class. she didn't see lily, she saw someone worse. well, 3 someones actually.

the blue-eyed brothers walked down the hall and one of them made eye contact with her, right before she shoved her head back in the locker, but she knew it was too late now.

"hey! Mcdonald's girl!" one of them shouted as they both walked to her locker, summer turning around slowly, her head down.

"hey! Mcdonald's triplets!" she said, realizing she was too enthusiastic for having her head to the floor. they all looked at her like she was a ghost, and she just gave up right then and there.

please don't notice please don't notice, please

"hey we never caught your name," another one said as she turned her head up, looking the one in the middle in the eyes.

"uh, summer. summer Cromwell-" summer said, realizing lily was right behind the triplets, and caught her gaze.

fuck.

"summer! where the hell have you been! I haven't heard from you since yesterday," lily said, running over and standing next to summer, her eyes on the triplets the entire time while summer stayed looking at the ground. lily was wearing a bright blue dress that hugged her body amazingly, it made summer feel ugly in her hoodie and sweats.

"yeah I just, uhm- ya" she shuddered, realizing lily didn't remember what day it was.

well, she did when she heard the tears in summers voice. Lily gasped and hugged summer, now they were both crying.

"oh my god are you guys okay?" the one in the middle asked, this was the 2nd time summer was crying in front of him and she doesn't even know his name.

summer and lily just sobbed into each other's shoulders, Summer cries louder than anyone else in the building. they expected the triplets to walk away and judge them, but they stayed there, the middle one standing closer to the girls than his brothers. the girls pulled away and lily accidentally knocked summers hoodie down, as she was explaining briefly to the boys.

"um, no I'm not. today is not a good day for me." summer explained, looking up to see the 4 people around her jaws dropped and gapped looked. "what?" summer said, sniffling her tears and trying to laugh, but lily just walked in front of summer and got a better look at her face.

it was then that summer realized what had happened. her face went red. not from flirty or exciting embarrassment, actually embarrassed embarrassment.

"summer, what the fuck happened to you?" lily asked quietly, she and summer turning around to hopefully help keep the sight contained from all the drama serpents, but it was too late.

"shianne Cromwell happened." was all summer could manage to say, trying not to cry. everyone in the hall was staring at her, even the principal that was just strolling down the hallway. lily sighed, putting her arm around summers shoulders.

"we're gonna go ditch, we'll talk soon" lily spoke for summer before they started bolting towards the door, before the principal noticed.

"lily wallmacker and summer Cromwell! come to my office please!"
