Jared's POV
****a few days later****
Over the past few days I have only caught glimpses of Melanie. I'm pretty sure she's avoiding me but I'm still not 100% sure. If only I could find her so we could talk...
"Melanie!" Shouting as I see her coming out of Lightning's stall, "can we talk?"
"Look, I'm really busy at the moment and if you could-" she starts but I cut her off.
"You have been avoiding me, haven't you?"
"I don't have time for this-"
"What did I do? Because I'm wracking my brain trying to think of an answer and it's driving me insane," softly, I add. "Please, tell me." Reaching for her hand, she avoids my eyes.
"I-" she looks passed my shoulder and her eyes turn cold, it's almost cute.
"Jared! There you are!" I should have known it was her fault.
Eva comes up behind me, wrapping her hands around my shoulders. I tense up, I'd much rather have Melanie's hands on-
GET YOUR MIND OUT OF THE GUTTER, JARED!
"Why are you with her?" Eva gives Melanie a nasty glare, as if Melanie is the most disgusting thing she has ever seen.
"I was tal-" I start.
"Well you aren't anymore, you're coming with me to cover my horses."
"You can't do that by yourself?" She slaps my chest and drags me away from Melanie. I give her a 'I'm-sorry' look but she's disappeared. So much for talking to her...
Life lesson: next time talk somewhere where Eva can't find me.
