Chapter 14

Jared's POV

"See ya later Eva." I say as I finish talking to her. She's the barn bitch here but I have to help her with things. It get really annoying when she flirts with me. Sometimes I just want to shout 'I DON'T LIKE YOU!' in her face, but then she'll go crying to Emma and then I won't be allowed to ride for a while. As I walk away I wonder if Melanie is here yet. I hope she is. I know I haven't known her for that long but when I'm with her, I relax and forget about the things that worry me. Entering the office, I greet Mandy and ask;

"Is Melanie here?"

"I think so. She's probably in the barn." Mandy replies. I say thanks and dash out of the office. Emma probably has a lesson going on in the arena and she doesn't like people disturbing her. There is a way to get to the barn without going through the arena but you have to go right around. Luckily, it doesn't take me that long because I know the way. I wonder where Melanie is. Probably with Lightning. It is crazy how those two connect.

As I make my way down the barn aisle, I greet Rocky and give him a treat. Rocky is nearly finished when someone passes me. It's Melanie!

"Hey Melanie!" I say. No response. She just keeps walking. Maybe she didn't hear me. Shrugging it off, I go to the hay loft to make a hay net for Rocky. Once I'm done, I climb down and go hang it up in his stall. While he's chomping on his hay, I think about Melanie ignoring me. Well, I don't want to say ignoring because she just might not have heard me. What if she was ignoring me? But why would she? I haven't done anything, have I? And here I am, as always, overthinking things. It could just be the simple fact that she didn't hear me, but here I am, overthinking and coming up with the thought that she could be ignoring me!
Deciding to go excercise a horse I have been working with for a little bit, Amber. I walk to her stall and lead her out. As I pass Lightning's stall I peer in again, only to see the same thing I saw last time, Lightning's butt. Ah well, I sigh, maybe she'll be there when I get back. I lead Amber outside to the round pen and start warming her up by free lunging her. She has a little bit to work on but she is getting quite good! Apart from the fact that some of the geldings out in the paddock like to tease her. They can be so annoying sometimes, but they are Eva's top dressage horses and no one is allowed to touch them. Otherwise they would have stopped teasing Amber ages ago. She lopes on each rein then comes to me to have a rest. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Melanie come out of Lightning's stall. So she was in there! She glances at me then quickly puts her head down and walks off fast. What's going on? I think I'm starting to have doubts to whether or not she's ignoring me. Amber nudges me and gives me a look, as if to say 'Dude, what did you do this time?'

"I don't know, Amber. I don't know."
