The next day, Bella's friends come to pick her up to go to Port Angeles.
"Bye Angel, I'll be home late, so don't wait wait up for me or anything. If you want to invite a certain someone over..." she's been teasing me about Emmett for the past few weeks, ever since she caught me staring at him.
I roll my eyes and blush.
"Just go Isa. Tell Angela to send me pictures of the dresses she tries on." I hug her.
As soon as she's gone I go upstairs to my room. I put on the same turtleneck and peacoat I wore a few weeks ago. I know that realistically, a turtleneck won't protect me from vampires, but it still gives me comfort. I let my hair loose, cascading down my shoulders, further covering my neck. I pull out my phone and text Emmett that I'm ready.
Twenty minutes later, he pulls up. I have my family book secured in a messenger bag that was supposed to be a gift for my 16th birthday. It was found wrapped in my parent's closet.
I smile and close the door, making sure to lock it, then put my keys away. I walk down the path towards Emmett's Jeep.
"Hey shorty, how you doing?" he asks, flashing a smile. I share it before getting in.
"Alright." I place my bag in my lap.
"You look cozy." he laughs as I put on my seatbelt.
"We never had weather like this in LA." I giggle.
The ride is mostly quiet. I think he can tell that I have something serious on my mind because he keeps glancing over at me. I meet his eyes a few times, causing us to both turn our heads from each other.
Pretty soon, we end up at the secluded property of the Cullen family. It is a large modern-style house and seems to be sitting on acres of forest. Usually, I don't like modern-style architecture, but it is truly quite impressive. We pull into the driveway, and Emmett walks around the car to open the door for me. I take his hand to help me out of the car and onto the ground.
"Shall we?" he smiles. I nod as I sling my bag over my shoulder.
We walk up to the door and he opens it. We are met at the door by Dr. Cullen and a woman I assume to be Mrs. Cullen.
Dr. Cullen smiles at me.
"Angel. Welcome to our home. I know we met at the hospital, but there's is no need for formalities. You can call me Carlisle." he extends his hand. I smile and take it, noticing the coldness of it. Just as I had suspected.
"And I'm Esme." says the woman next to him. She smiles and extends her hand and I shake it as well. Hers are just as ice-cold as the others', and her eyes are the same gold.
"It's nice to meet you. I'm Ángel Santos." I smile at her.
"Would you like anything? Water? Tea?" she asks.
"No thank you, I'm fine."
She smiles and nods.
Just then, the others come down the stairs. Alice smiles and pulls me into a hug. Jasper hugs me next, and last is Rosalie. Her hugs are actually quite nice. Edward doesn't hug me, but he does offer me a nod. I smile and take a step back, looking at all of them together. They all look shockingly similar. Same pale akin and gold eyes.
"So, Emmett says you want to talk with us?" Carlisle says.
I nod.
"Yes sir. I have to show you all something."
He nods and smiles at me, a knowing look in his eye.
"Shall we take this to the library then?" he says. It's phrased as a question but is obviously a command. We all nod and turn around. Emmett guides me to the library, a hand on my back as we follow the other Cullens up the stairs. Carlisle opens the door and we all file in. The library is beautiful, with tons of books, a computer in the back, and a large table in the middle. We all take a seat around the table, like this is some sort of office meeting.
