Halfway through the road trip, Taylor had finally figured out the clue. She stopped the car as soon as she could and grabbed the clue card and her phone, figuring out that the numbers corresponded to the letters on the telephone keypad. It took her a few trials, using a pen and the card to decipher the code until, a whole fifteen minutes later, she finally figured out it was code for "grocery store."

"Which one?" Was Taylor's first question. "We didn't pass it, did we?"

Kaia was grinning widely, excited that Taylor had finally figured it out. She shook her head, no, but remained silent.

"Oh, oh! It's the same one we always stop at, right? It has to be! The one that has those generic digestive cookies that are weirdly better, right?"

Kaia nodded slowly as Taylor started dancing triumphantly in her seat, now more excited and determined to reach her prize than ever.

She drove for another fifteen minutes, singing along to the radio and the Christmas songs that were playing like they were her anthem and came to a stop right outside the store at the rest stop.

The girls got out of the car and made their way inside fast to avoid the cold breeze. Kaia handed Taylor a small, red basket and they made their way toward the aisle with the candy. Taylor headed straight for the cookies and as she went to reach for one of the packets, her hand stilled and she grabbed a card that was taped next to the price tag with Kaia's neat handwriting.

"Okay, first question," Taylor started, "when did you drive out here to do all this?"

"Last weekend when you went out with Blake," Kaia explained. "I didn't bail because of Layla, although she did help out. Connell drove us out here, and I asked the manager if she could have someone just tape these today. I was texting them the whole way over here to make sure everything was in order."

"You're unbelievable!" Taylor exclaimed, wearing an ear-splitting grin. "Fuck— seriously, I'm... I'm literally speechless."

Kaia beamed at her and leaned up to kiss her cheek before shaking the card in her face. "Go on then! Read your next clue!"

"A scavenger hunt, within a scavenger hunt! You're unbelievable!" Taylor breathed out in disbelief.

"Well, this is just a small detour for a snacks hunt. It'll make sense when we get to the house," Kaia explained, tapping the clue again.

Taylor finally looked at it and started reading it out loud. The rhymes led her to all her favourite snacks. These, Kaia had left much simpler and easy to guess, mostly to leave the real effort for the actual scavenger hunt and she really wanted Taylor to find all the right snacks. Now, she could have simply walked down all the aisles, one after the other, in search of Kaia's handwriting to find the snacks, but Taylor liked to follow the rules of the games and it was much more fun to follow along.

About half an hour later, they were standing by the cash registers, basket filled with all kinds of sweets and snacks and Taylor was bouncing on the balls of her feet like she was on a sugar rush before having even consumed all that candy.

"Babe!" Kaia exclaimed through a laugh as she fished her card out of her wallet to pay.

"I'm excited and it's all your fault! Don't use that tone!" Taylor defended herself, still practically buzzing like a bee, high on nectar.
