One year later...
Hero-Lee
Hayes and I have been together for over a year now. It's been great. It's our senior year of high school and we're getting closer and closer to graduating. Two months left actually. I've been waiting to hear back from the colleges that I applied to and so far not good. I applied to 6 schools and have gotten 4 rejections. Hayes hasn't applied to any college because he said he's planning to skip college and just work.
"I'm stressing."
"We'll what does a pretty girl like you have to stress about?" Hayes asked me. We were sitting in his room doing homework. Kind of.
"Because I've gotten 4 rejections so far. What if I get rejected from all of them?" I asked.
"You're not going to get rejected from all of them. I think you just aimed a little too high on the college scale" he said.
"Hayes I applied to all state universities. Those are pretty easy to get into" I explained.
"Oh. Well have a little faith" he said to me.
"I don't have faith you know that."
"Sorry" he said. I opened my email and saw I had an email from California State University Long Beach.
"Oh my god CSU Long Beach sent me an email. This is one of the ones I've been waiting for. Oh my god what if they tell me no. I can't do it you do it" I said and handed him my laptop. He clicked and then started reading.
"Dear Hero-Lee Gonzales, we regret to inform you-" he started but then stopped.
"Are you serious?" I asked and took my laptop back.
We regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admissions to our school.
"Fuck. That's 5 no's I have only one application left" I said.
"It's going to be okay babe you just gotta believe" he said. My eyes watered.
How can I not get into 5 schools? My grades weren't bad and neither were my SAT scores. I mean they weren't super great but they weren't bad. What if I can't get into any college?
"Who are you waiting to hear from?" He asked.
"CSULA" I said. He grabbed his phone and typed on it.
"They just tweeted that they've sent out emails" he said.
"I haven't gotten anything from them though" I refreshed my email and saw a new email pop up.
"Wait here it is. Here you do it" I said. I handed him my laptop and he opened it. He had no emotion on his face and read it to himself.
"Some being a dick what does it say?" I asked. He looked up at me.
"You got in" he said.
"I got in?"
"You got in" he said with a smile. I started screaming. He stood up to hug me and I jumped on him.
"I'm so proud of you. I told you you had to believe" he said.
"Wait. CSULA?" I asked. I grabbed my laptop and googled.
"Wait the tuition is too much. My mom won't be able to afford it" I said.
Welp, there goes my dreams.
"What if I can help you out?" He asked.
"No Hayes it's fine. It's my responsibility."
"What if I went into the military" he asked getting my attention.
"Wait are you serious?" He asked.
"Yeah. I mean they have great benefits."
"Well if that's what you want to do then go for it. I'll miss you like crazy when you leave but I'll go and visit you wherever you go."
"What if you didn't have to" he asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Military spouses also get benefits. Like medical, dental, and tuition coverage."
"Hayes I can't marry you or ask you to go into the military just so I can go to college"
"Well I thought about the military a while back. And I was kinda debating it but once I found out about the spouses benefits I figured why not? Even if you were able to afford it what's better than free college?" He asked.
"I don't know Hayes" I said.
"If you don't want to marry me at some point just tell me that" he said.
"No it's not that. I just feel like you'd be in a job you probably don't like just so I can go to college" I explained.
"Like I said, I thought about it before."
"Have you talked to you family about that?" I asked.
"Yeah. They weren't too happy about it but they support whatever I decide" he explained.
"Alright we'll see what happens."
"So what you're saying is, you'll marry me?" He asked.
"Uh not if that's my proposal" I said with a laugh.
