"There's no way Kelly Smith is hotter than Jennifer Lacoste" I said to my group of friends.
"Dude Im telling you, kissed both of them and Kelly is way better" Sammy said right before the bell rang.
"Well fuck our lives. See you at break Grier."
I grabbed my stuff and got off the table I was sitting on before making my way to my film class. I've always had a secret passion for photography and film. But none of my friends knew. They just think I was put in this class because the other electives were all full. I just sit in the back of this class to make it look like I didn't care but I actually did.
"What's up Grier" Carter said as he walked in the class and sat next to me. He was my friend who had no other class to take so he's taking this one.
"How's it going?" I asked.
"So I heard there's a new student" he said.
"Really?"
"Yeah. Apparently it's a chick but that's all I know."
The late bell rang and a girl with black hair, black lipstick and all black clothes walked into the class and straight over to the teacher.
"Is that the new girl?" I asked.
"I guess."
"She's so...." I started but paused because I was trying to think of the right word to say.
"Emo" Carter said.
"Okay class this is our new student Hero-Lee. Be nice to her and help her if she needs any help. Hayes and Carter, help her out" she came and sat next to me and just looked straight ahead and had her arms crossed.
"Hello Im Hayes" I said but she ignored me.
"Alright then" I said as I turned back to Carter.
"Bro she kinda scares me. Is she gonna put a spell on us or something?" Carter whispered.
"I don't practice witchcraft. And maybe work on your whispering" she said.
"Sorry for my friend. We're just so used to seeing girls in short shorts and tight shirts. It's different to see a girl in all black....not different in a bad way. In a good way. We needed some change around here-" I started but she cut me off.
"Please. Just stop talking." She said making eye contact with me for the first time.
"Okay" I said. It was silent for a few seconds till I spoke up again.
"Sooo Hero-Lee? What an interesting name."
"Oh my god."
The day went by pretty fast and by the time I knew it it was Lunch time. I went and sat at my groups usual table and saw most of my friends were already there.
"Hey Hayes have you seen the new girl?" Matt asked.
"Yeah I have her in like 3 of my classes so far" I explained.
"She's so creepy. I feel like she's putting a spell on me for just staying excuse me" Jack G said.
"That's kinda judgmental don't you think?" I said.
"Hayes she's fucking emo. Pretty sure everyone is scared of her. Aren't you?"
"No."
I was terrified.
"Look there she is" Jack G said. I looked in the direction he was pointing and saw Hero-Lee walk through the cafeteria with headphones on. Everyone looked at her and got out of her way as if they were scared of her.
"Okay anyway onto something less witchy, are you guys going to Christian's party tomorrow?" Matt asked.
"Boy come on of course we are" I said.
"What about Kristen? Is she going?" Carter asked me.
"Oh I don't know. You guys know we broke up" I said.
"He'll probably have a new girl by the end of the party." Matt said.
"Yeah come on Carter, he's Hayes Grier you know he could have anyone fall in love with him" Jack G said.
"Okay I think that's true" I said with a laugh.
"See I don't think you're all that so I'm gonna disagree on that" Carter said.
"Okay let's bet then" I said.
"Fine. $50 if you can get a girl to fall in love with you with in the span of a week" he said.
"Mmm make it a couple months. People don't fall in love in a week" Matt said and Carter agreed.
"I don't know chicks can fall in love pretty quick" I said.
"Yeah when you're Hayes Grier you get girls falling in love left and right" Jack G said.
"Yeah but still. If you're betting someone falls in real love with him then you're gonna have to make it a couple months. Otherwise they're gonna be in lust with him" Matt said.
"Okay fine. Three months to get a girl to fall in love with you. And we get to pick the girl" he said.
"Deal" I said and we shook on it.
"So who's it gonna be?" I asked. The boys all looked at each other and whispered to one another before looking at me.
"Hero-Lee."
"What no way" I said.
"Hey you shook on it Grier. You have three months from this day to make Hero-Lee fall In love with you or you owe me $50" Carter said.
