Hero-Lee
Do you ever just wake up in the morning and wonder to yourself, 'what am I doing with my life? Why haven't I done anything with it? There were so many opportunities to do things that could change my life and I just let them slip.' Well I didn't think that. My mom did actually. But not about herself. About me. See I could care less about social activities that involve people. Which is exactly why I'd been home schooled my entire life. Okay that was an exaggeration. I've been homeschooled for 7 years. But one day my mom woke up and decided I needed to go to public school and live the teenage life. I don't want to but I'm 16 so I didn't really have a choice.
"H.L., are you ready? You have to be at school in 30 minutes" my mom said as she knocked on my door.
"Yup totally ready" I yelled back. She opened my door and saw I was still in bed.
"What are you doing? Get up and get ready?" She said.
"Yeah see I figured I'd just not go" I said nonchalantly.
"You'll be fine. It's just school. I did it once and I was fine" she said.
"Mom what if I have a panic attack?" I said.
"You haven't had one in months. And if you do or you start feeling anxious you have your meds on you at all times. You've been dealing with this for 7 years now. You know what to do."
"Okay but what if people make fun of my name?" I asked.
"You and I both know you don't care if people make fun of you" she said with a laugh.
"Yeah that's true."
"Now get up, get ready, and try not to wear too much black" she said as she left my room.
"No promises" I yelled back. I sighed before getting out of bed and getting ready. I brush my straight black hair and just left it down. I quickly did my makeup which was just foundation and setting powder to even out my skin tone and some black eyeliner, mascara and black lipstick. I went to my closet which consisted of all black band tees and grabbed a nirvana muscle tank with some black shredded jeans and some converse. I put on a few bracelets and then grabbed my black backpack.
"Oh my god I'm gonna cry" my mom said as I went into the kitchen.
"You're so sensitive" I said with a laugh.
"Hey this is your first time in school in 7 years let me be emotional" she said as she pulled her phone out to take a picture of me.
My mom and I had a really close relationship. I was the only child and my dad has been out of the picture since I was about 3 years old. So it just being us two we formed a really strong and close relationship. We tell each other everything and sometimes it's a little too much information o be telling your parent but we didn't care.
"You couldn't have taken the lip piercing out?" She asked referring to my vertical labret piercing.
"Nope."
"Think you'll be able to make it to school all by yourself?" She asked.
"Yes mom. I know my way around the city. I'm not gonna get lost."
"I mean in the car" she said as she held up the car keys.
"Wait seriously? You're letting me take the car?" I asked.
"Just don't get caught since you only have a permit" she said as she handed me the keys.
"Got it. Okay I gotta go" I said as I started walking towards the door.
"Okay have fun. I love you."
"I love you too."
My mom and I had come to the school a few days ago to register me but I wasn't paying attention to anything that was going on. So when I pulled up to the school I was surprised to see there were A LOT of cars in the parking lot. It took me a while to park since I'm still learning how to drive but when I did I got off and went to the office. There were a lot of students here already since the bell was supposed to ring in like 10 minutes. I got some stares which was making me uncomfortable but I finally got to the office.
"Hero Gonzales right?" A random woman in the office asked me.
"Uh yeah that's me."
"Go ahead and head into the principal's office and he'll be in in just a minute" she said as she pointed me into the direction of the office.
I can't believe my mom is making me do this. I could have been at home, not in public, and watching Netflix.
"Miss Hero Gonzales. Nice to meet you Im Mr. Moretti and I'm the principal here" a older man said as he came in.
"Hi nice to meet you." I said.
"And is your name Hero or Hero-Lee?" He asked.
"It's Hero-Lee."
It's not rocket science. There's a damn hyphen in there to make it easier.
"What an interesting name. And I understand you're taking medication for social anxiety correct?" He asked.
"Yes." I said.
"Okay. I'll go ahead and leave them in the nurses office and whenever you need them feel free to come to the nurses office" he said as he held out his hand.
"Wait what? I can't carry them with me?" I asked with confusion.
"No. Students are not allowed to carry any sort of medication with them around school."
I hate school.
"So I printed out your schedule along with the school bell schedule so you know when break and lunch is and if you have any questions about anything feel free to come in and ask us anything" he said once I handed him my pills.
"Thank you I will." I said as I started to walk out.
"Oh wait one more thing" he said.
"Yes?" I asked.
"That lip piercing, needs to be out. Now."
I really hate school.
