Isaac
After talking for sometime Ethan left and came back with my so called wife after about fifteen minutes.
"What's the matter?" I asked looking at them, only Ethan was looking at me whilst she kept her head down.
"I wanted to take her out for lunch but she said she couldn't go without your permission, is that true?" Ethan asked "Does she really need your permission for things like these?" he added.
This woman! I told her we'll have to pretend infront of Ethan but here she is, ruining everything on the very first day. I faked a laugh and walked up to her, she was standing there nervously fidgeting with her fingers.
I could tell Ethan was able to sense that she's scared of me. To not let things get out of hand, pressing my thumb under her chin I tilted her face up so that she was looking at me and it was probably for the first time perhaps that I noticed how beautiful her eyes were, big, doe like, slightly swollen and red from all the crying she has done but still beautiful.
"She doesn't need my permission for these things, I've told her countless times but she just doesn't listen to me" I said looking at her "Were you crying sweetheart?" I asked trying to put a show infront of Ethan.
"Yes" answered Ethan for her "She's missing her dad" he explained and I sighed in relief, good thing she hasn't said anything to him about what happened between us earlier.
She was staring at me in disbelief as I snaked my arms around her waist and pulled her in for an embrace, I could feel her body stiffen as she tried to overcome the shock.
I rubbed her back slowly "It's okay babe, I know it's hard for you to deal with the fact that he's not with you anymore but life doesn't stop there.
I heard a sob escape her lips and guilt overtook me "I'm sorry Ethan but I forgot to tell her that we're supposed to go to this small get-together today, you can take her out for lunch tomorrow" I said, I was afraid if I let her alone with Ethan she'd spill the beans on our marriage to him and I don't want that.
She pulled away immediately "What?" She asked, her eyes widening in shock "Yes baby, sorry I forgot to tell you earlier... now go get ready or else we'll get late" I reasoned with her, I wasn't planning on taking her to meet my friends but now I have no other choice left.
"Okay, if you say so.... take care of her" Ethan said and for some reason it annoyed me, he's not the husband, I am.
"Will do" I said with a fake smile and he nodded before walking out of the bedroom.
"I'm not going anywhere with you" she said and I narrowed my eyes at her "It doesn't matter if you want to go or not, I said you're going and that's final" I commanded raising my voice slightly, I was so annoyed by this woman, first she tried to eavesdrop on my phone call, then she went on and almost exposed the reality of our marriage to Ethan.
"And I said I don't want to go" her voice was laced with anger, what has gotten into her?
"Don't flatter yourself, I wouldn't have cared to take you with me and make a fool of myself infront of my friends but I'm afraid I can't trust you... I know you'll do something stupid and expose the reality of our relationship to Ethan" I said sternly "Now go and put on something decent to wear, fix your face with whatever you want to... we'll leave in about thirty minutes.
She slouched her shoulders and hung her head down, after about a minute she looked up at me "Don't ever try to show fake sympathy towards me, not even for show" she said with disgust and marched towards the closet, I slowly walked out of the room to give her some space.
I went to my study, sitting on the chair behind my desk I opened my laptop to work but my mind was clouded by her thoughts, I don't like her but I did cross a line today and now I was drowning in guilt.
After about twenty minutes a light tap on the already open door of my study made me look up and for a moment I almost didn't recognise her, she looked so different wearing a short blue sleeveless dress, her hair was tied up in a messy bun and her pretty little face was on full display, she still wasn't wearing make-up apart from lipstick but she looked beautiful nevertheless.
"I'm ready" she said in an indifferent tone without giving me so much as a glance, I wanted to scold her and make her change into something that wouldn't draw so much attention but I didn't, I know I said I'd make her regret marrying me but I think both of us have witnessed enough drama for one day.
I nodded, closed my laptop and got up whilst she stood there looking at her feet.
We arrived at my friend Alexander's house after a thirty minutes silent drive and he greeted us, especially my wife with much enthusiasm and excitement.
"Ah so you're the lovely woman who was unfortunate enough to get married to my cold hearted friend here" he teased reaching for her hand and giving it a light kiss, her cheeks turned red and all I did was scowl at my friend.
"You can say that but I'm determined on making his heart a little less cold" she commented, wow she really is testing me today.
"Where are the others?" I asked Alexander, completely ignoring whatever he and my so called wife have just said about me, he led us through the hallway and into the huge living room where everyone was seated, my eyes landed on a certain someone and I cursed under my breath.
Everyone's eyes landed on us and I prepared myself for what's going to happen next.
