_____________________________After ~ 26 years old
"Alexander Pharaoh Evans," Chryseis said as she sat down on the opposite side of the table from him. His sister had hounded him down with phone calls for months. Yes, he had been avoiding his family but he had also been travelling so much and changing time zones faster than he changed his shirts. It was not like she was an idle person either. She travelled just as much as him if not more.
When he found out that the FINA championships were in Paris and she was handing over the medals to the winners of her old event, Alex had offered to have dinner. He did want to see his sister, despite knowing that the reason she was hounding him was because of their parents.
He had accompanied her to the event and stood aside as she shook hands, did interviews and took pictures. It had taken up all of his morning and afternoon. It was the strangest thing to watch people bow down to his sister. Usually he forgot that the crown on her head meant something bigger than decoration. She would always be his annoying sister who hugged and kissed him even when he didn't want it.
Now that they were alone, Alex knew he couldn't avoid talk of their parents. He was surprised that they didn't even get to the entrées before she ambushed him. Chryseis usually had more tact than that.
"You are using the middle name as well?"Alex smiled. "You do know that you don't intimidate me, right?"
Chryseis curled her mouth upward. She looked so dorky. Alex never understood why people feared her. Sure she had a title to go with the crown but she was still the same. "And you do know that disappearing and not talking to your family is not cool, right?"
Alex rolled his eyes.
"You do know that I see Papa every day, right? How is that not talking to family?" Alex sighed. "And dad has been more involved in the project instead of a delegate as of late."
His father hardly sat in all the calls for new designs, especially ones where he wasn't the main designer of a building. The last few weeks hadn't been that way and Alex knew why. Beau Evans was not a man of many words particularly with strangers. But his children knew he loved them. His love was often felt by his actions. Despite running a multinational architectural company, he had been there to all the important events in his children's lives.
Alex knew the extra calls that his father sat on were a show that he missed his son but he was not going to push his way in. Both his parents didn't. His mother could have bombarded him with calls if she really wanted to and instead, she sent him little updates of small things happening in the family each week like his grandmother's birthday. Adrianna Evans had been the one tell her son of his sister giving an award in Paris.
"Oh I see! Even then you have to see grandpa because you have to work with him. I doubt that you would see him if you weren't working."
Alex crossed his arms and stared down at his sister. She may have been older but she was shorter and had a small stature. Beside him, she looked like a child. His biceps alone were bigger than one half of her body. Perhaps it was an exaggeration but Alex was not remotely intimidated by his sister. If his parents had sent Phoebe, he may have had to rethink his options.
"Why don't you tell me what mom and dad want?"
Chryseis' face softened. "Do you really think I want to see you only because of mom and dad?"
