Author's Note at the End :)
October 13th, 2013:
We had all made our way to the lobby to be on time for our interview with TenAsia. The questions were pre-arranged so we knew there would be no curveballs, but only the managers had seen them, we hadn't yet. Therefore we were all a little unsure going in.
We enter the lobby and are met almost right away with our managers.
"The interviewer is already here, her name is Heejung. Be on your best behaviours, ok," whispers Sejin.
"Think before you speak," adds Beomsoo, staring at me.
I had decided I would let Namjoon, and the other members do the talking. I didn't want to give any reason for the company to get mad at me.
We all nod in acknowledgment and walk over to the two couches in the lobby with Sejin. They had also added a few chairs so we could all sit down comfortably.
"Ms. Heejung, may I introduce you to BTS," Sejin introduces us.
Namjoon starts our introduction, and we all bow with our handguns.
"Hi, it's nice to meet you, I'm Shin Heejung of TenAsia. I hope this interview goes well," the journalist introduces herself.
We all sit down on the couches and chairs. I took the chair farthest from the interview so as to go as unnoticed as possible. The managers stayed, but just lingered behind the couch, obviously making sure we didn't say anything we, or the interviewer, weren't supposed to.
"I suppose we can just dive right in with the first question?" she asks looking around quickly. After seeing all of us nod she looks down at her laptop to ask the first question, "In 2013, BTS' popularity rose the quickest among the rookie idol groups. Do you feel your popularity?"
That first question definitely threw me for a loop. All I ever heard was "don't look at the comments", "don't watch the reaction videos or fan faces too much", "try to just focus on your performance, they'll like you eventually". Thus, I thought we were struggling, especially after the whole petition debacle and financial issues, but I guess we were actually popular for good reasons given the question. It made me happy, but also made me upset after I realised just how much energy I was putting into the negative media and reactions.
"I can't go out to have a look so I can't feel it really," Jin answers first.
"We worked on our next album so soon after our debut, so it was too quick to feel anything," Namjoon expands.
The interviewer nods and looks around to see if anyone wanted to answer. Hearing the continued silence, she asked her second question.
"How much did you compose for this mini-album? The songs all sound great even though you guys had a little time to compose after promoting your debut single?"
I could see Yoongi nodding and remaining stoic, but I knew he was smiling inside. He took immense pride in his songs, and to receive a compliment like this made it worth it for him I'm sure.
