I didn't usually get shy around anyone. But Devin had a different effect on me. It was the way he came into the room. And out of everyone, he chose me to give his attention to. That threw me off. Boys didn't approach me. They overlooked me and talked to Ranea instead. Not because I was ugly. But she stood out more. Especially with her attire. She really would now that she had this new look.

I almost liked the attention. Normally, I showed no interest in boys who approached me. He appeared different. But that didn't mean anything though. Appearance had the power to fool anyone. I definitely didn't want to fall victim to his charm. Besides, he would probably do some other girl like that. So no need to spend time thinking too much into it.

The rest of my morning classes were boring. It was the usual math, reading, and science. Nothing of those subjects sparked my interest.

Lunch time happened after my fifth class. I took the last one. Ranea took it with me too, but I wasn't fond of lunch time due to Ranea's friend Chelsea and her boyfriend Xavier. They hated me.

I had hope that maybe their classes changed, and they would be on a different lunch than us. That hope disappeared once I saw Chelsea sitting right across from Ranea.

After I grabbed my lunch, I silently sat down only saying hi to Ranea.

"How is your first day back?" She asked.

"It was really the same like I expected," I answered.

"Anyway my day had been great so far," Chelsea said.

I frowned at her. "You don't have to interrupt me."

She purposely taunted me. I wanted to ignore it, but I wasn't the one to back down from anyone. Defending myself against people made feel like I had control even though it wasn't the case. It felt better than letting someone talk to me crazy.

Chelsea just smiled back. "I wasn't interrupting. You finished talking, so I decided to start talking."

"Well she wasn't talking to you. She was talking to me," I responded.

"Don't start this arguing now," Ranea said.

This was the way it was between us now. We stayed arguing with one another. At one time Chelsea and I were on the verge of being friends. That didn't happen because Chelsea felt like I was being judgemental of her and Xavier when they got into a relationship.

Chelsea became so excited when she first saw him and kept talking about him. She was constantly telling us how much she liked him. So I encouraged her to go talk to him since he seemed to always be on her mind. She took my advice. Chelsea was glad that I pushed her to talk to him. But all that changed when a week later Chelsea announced her relationship with him. It took me by surprise. Xavier started to sit with us, and they seemed to like each other a lot. I wanted to be happy for them, but I felt that she got into a relationship too fast since she only knew him for a week. Chelsea took it the wrong way. She got mad at me and felt that I judged Xavier and her. And now every since then, we didn't get along.

"Well she is the one who interrupted me," I continued on with argument."

"Bitch you answered her question. So I took it upon myself to start talking."

Her calling me out of my name was going too far. She set me off with that Therefore, I furtherly defended myself.

"She addressed me first. She didn't say anything to you, so you should've kept your mouth shut until she said something to you."

My attitude began to come out. I knew how ugly it can get.

"Girl please if anything you need to keep yours shut. I am not interested in hearing you talk about your boring life."

Chelsea returned the attitude.

"I am going to talk about whatever I like and if your annoyed with me, you can always move. This is not the only table in the cafeteria."

She scoffed. "I am not going nowhere I am staying at this table whether you like it or not."

"Y'all stop arguing. Why can't we just all be friends with one another?" Ranea asked trying to stop the tension that was rising.

"I could never be friends with someone like her," Chelsea replied.

"Chelsea I don't want to be friends with someone like you either. You love to start drama, and I'm not with all that."

"You should be begging to be my friend considering that Ranea is your only friend. Admit it Miesha. Your ass is lonely. You have no one else."

"I am not begging for anyone's one friendship. I am good. As you can see, I doing fine with having only one friend. So you not hurting my feelings by saying that. Besides I don't see how anyone can be friends with you anyway."

"Oh. So are you saying your best friend doesn't know how choose her friends."

Chelsea smirked when I didn't immediately have a response to that.

The only thing I wanted to do was reached across this table and slap her.

"Let me straightened you out real quick. If Ranea wants to be friends with you, then that's fine. Obviously there is something she like about you. Me personally I don't see what it is that she like about you. I am not going to hate on Ranea for being friends with you. But I know one thing. Just because she friends with you doesn't mean I will just sit here and let you just say anything to me."

"Miesha what are you going to do?" She challenged.

Chelsea stood up from her seat giving me a very mean glower.

To show her I wasn't scared, I matched her same energy and got up out of my seat as well. I never fought anyone before, but I for sure would fight Chelsea. She had been taunting me for too long. I was sick of words. It was time for action.

"I'm not afraid of you Chelsea. You getting up out your seatt isn't proving anything," I stated.

"This stops now." Ranea pulled on Chelsea's arm forcing her to sit back down.

"No she wanted to be all big and bad and get up out her seat. Let me see what she was about to do. Whatever it is I'm ready."

Now it was my time to taunt her. I wanted to see if she wanted to fight.

"Bitch that sound like fighting words." Ranea struggled to keep her from getting up.

"Miesha sit down," Ranea demanded.

"And you," She pointed to Chelsea who calmed down, "Do not fight."

"Girl I wasn't gone fight her. I look too cute today for all that." She straightened her clothes up.

I didn't utter another word and just sat back down. But the frown settled on my face. Chelsea successfully ruined my lunch. She acted like she was so tough, but was too cute to fight. I shook my head. If this how lunch would continue to be, it was going to be a long semester.
