"Beatriz."I mumbled.
"Oh, Atticus! Isn't the sky pretty tonight?"She asked me.
"Uh, I guess."I scooched beside her. We started up at the sky for a bit. "You're aura's different."Beatriz finally said. I didn't know what she was talking about for awhile, and then I realized. Beatriz had been able to see aura's since we were kids."How so?"I wondered.
"You don't have one anymore."The words escaped her lips. I knew what it meant to not have an aura... Beatriz used to use that tactic to tell if monsters were dead when we were kids. Did that mean..? Oh, no. I felt like I was going to puke. I was... I was the equvilant of a corpse.
I retched, throwing up off the side of the dragon into the sky. Oops. Hope It didn't hit anyone. Beatriz pat my back, "I know. I know." It was an awkward exchange, but it made me feel better.
"I'm- I'm sorry..."I muttered. "Yeah."Beatriz said. I could feel myself shaking. I was dead. Did I even have a heartbeat or was this one of Lucifer's illusions? Was I even real? Was I- Oh, demons, I was hyperventilating. Trembling, shaking, hiding my face in my hands, it was like I could feel my flesh rotting around me. "Atticus, hey, look at me."Beatriz suddenly demanded, making me look up. Her form flickered between herself and my murderer."Don't let this overcome you. You're as alive as anyone right now!"Beatriz gripped onto my shoulders, I sniffled, trying to clear my head. Happy thoughts, happy thoughts... erm- Puppies. Puppies wearing hats, I thought. The puppies are going to kill you. My paranoid mind argued. Uh, Ice cream, I thought. The ice cream is POISONED, my mind screamed.
I focused on something else, Jade. NO! DUMMY! THEIR YOUR EX! The sane part of me yelled. I still couldn't stop my staring, and Beatriz noticed, lightly slapping me on the back of the head.
"Atticus. I don't know if you're zoned-out or whatever, BUT STOP STARING AT JADE, THEIR MY PARTNER!"Beatriz demanded, my face flushed red. "R-right, sorry. Zoned out."I lied.
"Hmph."Beatriz mumbled. "Who's- yellin'?"Erik grumbled groggily. "Go back to sleep."Beatriz demanded. Valentina woke up. "Oh my demons! Shut uppp!"She checked her watch, "It's 6:00 AM!"
"What? Need you beauty rest?"Erik scoff-laughed."You know I do."Valentina replied. Ah, the perfect couple.
Edie woke up, too, "G'morning..."She mumbled.
"Guess were all up. Except, wait, Jade?"I asked.
"Out cold."Beatriz declared, picking up Jade's arm and then letting go, it limply dropped down."What do we do now?"Edie wondered.
"Right now is about the time someone falls over, stabbed in the back, or we get attacked by something, or someone appears and asks us to do them a favor."Erik smirked, Valentina punched his arm.I sort of... envied them. They reminded me of what Jade and I used to have. What we could have had if Beatriz didn't start dating Jade. Why was I so angry?! I should've been happy for Jade and Beatriz! But...I wasn't. I was enraged.
Valentina eyed me for a second, as if she could read my thoughts.
"So what's it like... er- dying?"Erik asked me, Valentina elbowed him in the arm. I started to get tunnel vision, but Beatriz put her hand on my shoulder. "Now now, we should ask Atticus if he's comofortable with the question."She told them sort of like a mom talking to her kids. Erik and Valentina turned to me, "Well, a-are you?"Edie asked."Uhmmm..."I paused to look at everyone staring at me, "I... guess."
I breathed in and then sighed, "It wasn't really fun. Hard for me to remember, though, my memory's a bit fuzzy..."I took another long, shaky breath. "I remember being stabbed with a spear."I watched as Beatriz stuck her pointy spear back in her backpack.
"I remember a really hot pain, I was really tired, but I didn't want to go to sleep, because I knew..."My voice began to shake, "That I wouldn't live."I traced my finger on my arm-stitches. "And before I went to sleep, the last thing I saw was Jade's face, crying."
"Crying?!"Erik interrupted, "But- I thought they were an emotionless robot! Beep boop."Erik moved his arms like a robot.
"Well, I think they'd cry if their best friend died, idiot!"Valentina smacked him lightly over the head."Yeah..."I mumbled, retracing my trauma wasn't really helping.
"Are you okay, Atticus?"Someone asked me, I couldn't tell who as the paranoia set in. "Get away!"I suddenly screamed. "Uh... pardon?"The same girl wondered, she had long, frizzy ginger hair."No! No! My name! How do you know my name?!"I yelled once again, backing away to the far end of the dragon. I had woken Jade (the only person I could recognize) with my screaming.
"Atticus, maybe you should-"The ginger girl was cut off by me, "NO! NO POWERS! BACK AWAY!"I yelled.
"Atticus!"Jade stepped towards me, arm reaching out. "I can't trust you! You-You're an angel! You'll kill me!"I began to shake.
"I'm not!"Jade insisted, "You're going to fall! Take my hand!"I reached my hand out and then instantly pulled away, "Th- this is a trap!"
"Atticus, you're having a PTSD Attack! You're paranoid!"The other kid said, he was growing a few feathers, which freaked me out even furthur."Y-you're paranoid!"I insisted.
"Look what you did, Erik! You shouldn't have asked that question!"The ginger girl yelled, making me jump. "You're scaring him!"The older girl argued.
"You don't know what's-"And then I fell.
I fell off the side of the dragon, my scream was loud, I think everyone was too shocked to realize what had happened. I was plummeting to my death.
Oh no.
