Ch 40

He reached his home quite late, but Levi was still awake, waiting for him.

"You're late" he remarks as Eren entered

"Yeah, Armin's apartment and college are pretty far. I don't think we'll get to meet that often anymore..." Eren says sounding dejected and sits on the couch

"...Yeah, that's true," Levi said as stood in front of Eren, putting his arms around his neck and delicately stroking his hair. He knew Eren was upset about Armin leaving and wanted to comfort him.

Eren pulled Levi closer by grabbing his waist and snuggling his head into Levi's stomach.

After a few minutes he lets go and Levi sits beside him, leaning his head on Eren's shoulder and Eren, takes one of Levi's hand, gently rubbing it with both his hands.

"Are you feeling better?" Levi asks with a tired voice

"Yeah, I am. Besides, this was bound to happen one day. You must have had to do the same, right?" Eren asks, shifting his eyes towards Levi

"...something like that" he answers, being brief  "although unlike you I didn't move out. Your parents seem lenient"

"They are, but my mom can be overprotective sometimes... What about you?" Eren asks, being curious

"My parents huh?...My life was very different from yours, Eren. So, I'll tell you about it some other time." Levi replies in a gentle, neutral tone.

"...yeah, ok" Eren replies, understanding that Levi will tell him in time.

A few days later, Eren finally moved into his new apartment.

The new place was quite huge and was filled with boxes and the furniture there was all covered with white sheets that were not removed yet.

Eren's mom was standing at the front door just dropping off the last of his belongings needed and was sobbing about her son moving out.

"Mom, it's not like I'm living in another country. I'm just half an hour away." Eren says, trying to calm Carla down.

"I know. But you still have to come and visit every week like you said" Carla says, still sobbing

"Every month mom. That's what I said." Eren corrects her casually while walking out of the apartment with her, to her car.

"What about Mikasa and Armin?" she asks before driving away

"They're coming next week, don't worry." Eren replies smilingly and then waves her goodbye.

He goes back to his new apartment then and starts arranging a few things from the boxes. After he finishes, he falls into his bed being tired and decides to call Levi.

Levi, who was sitting leisurely on his couch reading a book, almost immediately picks up the phone seeing it was Eren who called.

"Are you done with moving in?" he asks right off in his usual neutral way

"Pretty much. But the cleaning is obviously not up to your standards." Eren chuckles a bit, but was sounding tired "...ahhh, I wanted to come over today"

"You want to come over everyday. You might as well be living here" Levi sarcastically remarks

"Can I?" Eren jokes and laughs softly

"Sure and we'll give your brand new apartment to the first homeless person we find" Levi says as he tosses his book aside, heading to his bed.

"Sounds good enough to me..."

"You should go to bed. You sound like you'll fall asleep any minute"Levi softly said

"But I like talking to you...I could listen to your voice for hours"

"...don't talk nonsense and just sleep."

"I'm not, but fine. Good night Levi" Eren said, saying Levi's name in a warm loving way

"...good night" Levi replies and then hangs up but after a few seconds smiles softly at Erens words

The next day, Eren goes to Levi's house in a peppy mood and to pick him up and take him to the new apartment.

Although, the minute Levi entered the new apartment, he looked at Eren with the most vexed expression, after all, the whole apartment was filled with dust again and there was quite a lot that was left to be done.

Eren immediately gives a defeated and exasperated look, knowing that the only thing he'll be doing for the next few hours is cleaning the place, spic and span.
