~16 years later~

Mary was busy making chicken parmesan for dinner, it was a favorite for everyone except for Sam who said it was unhealthy. Even so he was still respectful enough to eat the meal anyway, it was the one of the many things Mary loved about her son. Even so, making this brought back a lot of memories for her, the same day her husband brought Dean home. John walked into the house a bit out of breath and holding something small in his hands. "John I made your favorite," she said, taking her apron off so she could probably greet him. But she stopped when she saw the baby in his arms. "John, whose baby is that?" She asked.

"I don't know, I found him alone in the woods." John answered.

"You mean he was abandoned?" Mary asked, unable to believe anyone could give up a cute baby boy with green eyes. John said it looked that way and gently handed him to her. "It's strange I don't recognize him, and I've held a lot of newborn infants," Mary played with Dean's fingers and he seemed to enjoy her touch. "What's his name?"

"Dean," John answered. He could see that his wife was getting very attached and was a bit worried. "Well I was thinking that you take a look at him, and try to find out where his parents are." John suggested. Mary disagreed on that last part, while she knew it was selfish to want someone else's kid she couldn't help but love Dean instantly.

"John can't we just adopt him, his parents could be awful people and the ones that left him there," Mary argued. "Anyone who leaves a baby to die like that is awful in my book." John sighed heavily and said that he understood but they had to at least try. Before Mary could answer the cries of their newborn Sam came from upstairs.

"I got it," John said. "He's probably hungry." Mary almost dropped some silverware in the memory of what happened next. Dean had begun to act up so she took him upstairs thinking that he missed John, but to her surprise he stopped as soon as he saw Sam, and vice versa. The two bonded instantly and Mary didn't have the heart to separate them when she realized, even a little time apart made them act up. So after that John and Mary officially adopted Dean, the only problem was that he didn't know. Sam didn't know either since he had been a baby himself, and since both John and Mary never found any trace of Dean's birth parents, They felt it was better to let him think they were his biological parents and he was never abandoned.

"Mom, I'm hungry." Dean complained from the table.

"Hang on baby I'll be done in a second," Mary responded. She brought it over to the table and laughed when Sam made a face at it. "Come on Sam, meat is good for you too."

"I know but I'd just rather eat a salad or something, but like always I'll have some just for you." Sam answered.

"What's with you and Salads?" Dean asked. "Are you trying to go on a diet or something?"

"I'm watching my cholesterol Dean, and you should as well." Sam responded.

"Hey no fighting at the table," John scolded. "Don't make me have to separate you like little kids."

"We aren't arguing dad," Dean said and ate his food before swallowing. "Besides, mom's cooking is always the best."

"Hey I didn't hear any complaints about my duck chowder last night." John said.

"That's because it glued our mouths shut, you really thought Dean was silent throughout all of dinner." Sam answered, trying not to laugh.

"Okay that's enough you three," Mary said. "If anyone argues about dinner, they're cooking the next one." No one else argued about food after that, since Mary had a strict family dinner policy. They weren't going to be able to sit together so no arguments were allowed to continue at the table. After dinner Sam and Dean took off, most likely to race against each other in one of their video games. Mary and John tried not to be worried about how close they still seemed to be, while that hadn't been a problem when they were little now they were teengaers. And most teenage boys didn't treat their siblings the way Sam and Dean treated each other, they were more interested in picking on them or finding a girl to date. Speaking of girls, Mary had lost count of the number of girls attempting to date her boys, but quickly left after realizing the brothers would spend time together instead.

"What's up with you?" John asked.

"Don't you think it's strange that Sam and Dean are always together?" Mary asked.

"Yeah but what are we going to do, Dean still has terrible separation anxiety," John responded. "And we've tried to separate them before it only made things worse."

"Don't remind me." Mary responded. The first time that they tried to separate Sam and Dean it didn't go like they had planned.

When Sam and Dean were thirteen, John and Mary tried to give Sam and Dean their own things. Mary brought Sam to a math competition while John attempted to bring Dean to a soccer game. But quickly pulled on his father's arm and began crying hysterically, normally he refused to cry at all but now he couldn't help it.

"Dean, what's wrong?" John asked surprised and concerned about Dean's sudden reaction.

"I want to be with Sammy." Dean pouted.

"Dean, you are far too old to be pouting," John told him. "And you'll see him later."

"I want to see him now though," Dean responded. "Please, I don't want to be here, I want to hang out with Sam," he continued. "You can't keep me away from him." The sudden outburst brought the attention to some of the people in the crowd who were not expecting a thirteen year old to act like a child.

"Okay but you have to calm down," John told him. He was holding back his worry in his voice, Dean had never reacted this way to anything, what was he supposed to do? Take him to therapy? They would probably think Dean was crazy. "Can you breathe for me son?" Dean nodded and John took him back to the family car, still he was worried. Even when Dean calmed down when he saw Sam again, John couldn't let go of the fact that they were separated for a good while before having to meet back up.

"Dean, are you okay?" Sam asked.

"I don't want to be separated from you or anyone Sam, I can't." Dean said thinking back to the situation he was in. He never really knew why he acted the way he did, all he knew was that he couldn't handle being away from someone for too long.

Mary sighed as she shook herself out from the memory. Even then separating them was a terrible idea, it was especially hard since both Her and John were working parents trying to feed two teens. "I think we should get them off those electronics," Mary said. "Maybe Sam and Dean can get out of the house for a little while, go for a walk together, do what kids used to do." John figured that would be a good idea, so he went upstairs to find Dean beating Sam in mortal kombat.

"Hey you cheated," Sam said to his brother. "Stop using the grenade launcher."

"Hey it works." Dean responded with a smirk.
