Mai stared at you with a bored expression. "You can't be serious." She said, shifting her weight as she crossed her arms. "I'm not getting sand in places I don't want sand in at this time of the night." She said, tilting her chin upwards. You raised a brow at her as you set a blanket down on the sand, brushing a hand on it to smooth it over. "Y/N..."

"That's why there's a towel. Boom." You said, a cheeky smile on your face. Mai scoffed, refusing to look at you as you sat down on the towel. "Mai-Chan come on!" You whined as you opened the little cooler you brought with you that was filled with pastries and sweets. Mai tilted her head downward and peeked into the bag before tilting her chin upward once more.

"I can't eat that crap. Do you know how much sugar is in that?" She said, uncrossing her arms and placing her hands on her hips. You stuffed a cookie into your mouth and raised a brow at her. Mai looked at you once before bursting into laughter. "Gosh! You are such a pig" She cried, gripping her stomach as her laughter shook her body. You narrowed your eyes and stuck your tongue out at Mai. That only spurred her laughter. "Here... Here!" She said between laughs, taking a napkin out of your bag and wiping the crumbs and frosting off of your mouth. You gave her a deadpan as you took a small cupcake out of the cooler and smashed it onto Mai's face.

"You... are so... dead!" Mai said in a low voice, tackling you and rubbing the frosting off of her face onto your's. You couldn't help but burst into laughter as Mai sneaked a few kisses in between her revenge. Even though you knew you would break out tomorrow and be bullied by Mai for your acne for a good two weeks, it was worth getting Mai to relax and sit on the blanket with you.

Eventually, the two of you calmed down and you were finally able to convince Mai to eat some of the sweets you brought for them. Mai tried to act like she wasn't enjoying herself, but you could tell from the little sparkle in her eyes and the relaxed manner she was sitting in that she was enjoying this just as much as you were. You interlaced your fingers with Mai's as you looked up at the moon and stars. This was probably the biggest you've ever seen the moon before and you wondered just how far you would have to go to grab it. Mai lightly squeezed your hand and leaned her head on your shoulder. "The moon really is beautiful tonight, isn't it?" Mai asked, tracing circles on the inside of your palm. Mai would never admit it, but she was a hopeless romantic. A blush dusted her cheeks as she asked you this question and she silently prayed that you wouldn't be able to see it in the moonlight.

You turned to her and smiled. "Yea, it really is." You said before pressing a light kiss to her forehead. Mai grumbled something as she stuffed her face into your shoulder. There was no way she could face you with how flushed she was now. You laughed and squeezed her hand. Your eyes focused on the water. The way the waves softly hit one another and the way the moon reflected in it. It was like a distorted reflection but it was still a beautiful one nonetheless. Smirking, you kicked your shoes off and pulled your socks off. Mai held onto your arm before realizing what you were doing.

"Y/N, no." She said, eyes wide. You just smiled at her before kissing her nose.

"Y/N, yes." You replied before rolling your pants up and grabbing Mai's hand. "Please, Mai-Chan, aren't you a natural troublemaker or something." You teased, dropping a light kiss to her knuckles. Mai glared at you but you could see the muscles in her face moving as she tried to hide her smile.

"I cause trouble for other people, not for myself." She said, smirking proudly. You gave her a look before bolting off to the water, tugging her with you. "EH? Y/N!" Water splashed up your legs as you ran into the water. The waves hit the both of you, causing you to stumble. Mai gawked and screeched at the contact with the cold water. She pouted as you turned to her. "Y/N!" She whined

You smiled, wadded toward her and took both her hands in your's. A light blush dusted her cheeks at the action of affection. That only made your smile grow and Mai couldn't help but admire you in the moonlight the same way you admired her. Mai couldn't get enough of this. She loves being with you, she loves getting to be normal with you, and she loves just getting to look at you. Of course, she would never say any of that to your face.

But you knew. You knew the way she kept on coming back. You knew because she always hung out with you even though she always called you annoying. She'll always say that she shouldn't waste her time on you and that she does out of pity, but you know by the twinkle in her eye and the way she blushes whenever you look at her like she's the moon itself, that she will always waste her time on you.

And... well maybe the way she bent down slightly to kiss you in the moonlit ocean also told you that she would always waste her time on you!
