"Baekhyun! Come here!" My mom called out from the kitchen.
I hurriedly went to the kitchen to ask my mom the reason why she's calling me. "Yes, mom?" I uttered.
My mom grabbed a box which I think contains one of her specialties, cake. She handed it down to me as I looked at it then back at her, giving her a confused look. My mom chuckled, "We have new neighbors. Hope you could give that to them, sweetie?"
I grinned at her. "I love new neighbors. Sure, mom!" I hurriedly went outside excitedly to give this cake and to also make friends with my neighbors. I hope they have a kid that's the same age as me. That would be totally great!
But wait. Where exactly did my new neighbor live? I scratched my head and went back inside the house again carrying a frown on my face. I went to the kitchen and went to my mom who was washing dishes. "Mom?" I started, grabbing the hem of my mom's dress for attention. She immediately noticed me and dried her hands with a towel beside the sink. She knelt down to match my height but albeit she was kneeling, she's still taller than me.
"What's with the sad face, sweetie?" She said and cupped my face, putting aside the box.
"I don't know where the new neighbor lives, mom," I said sadly and gave a little pout.
My mom just ruffled my hair and smiled sweetly, "Don't worry, I'll just go with you, then."
My face immediately lit up, removing the frown on my face into a grin. "That's more like it. Let's go, darling," my mom remarked and stood up. She got the cake on her other hand as the other held my hand. We both walked our way outside the door, towards a new house up ahead of ours.
I was very excited by then but I can't help but notice that the house felt gloomy. Shrugging that off, I looked at my mom and grinned, she grinned back at me before pressing the doorbell.
After moments of waiting, no one answered. I looked at my mom and I slightly frowned. "Don't worry, darling. Maybe they haven't heard it. Let's try again," my mom said, comforting me.
I was a bit elated by my mom's words and raised my hopes up, again.
My mom pressed the doorbell again. I was anticipating that someone might answer and so I waited patiently. I want to meet a new friend because being lonely is sad. And now that I have a new neighbor, maybe I could have one.
But just like before, no one still answered. I sighed and so did my mom. "Maybe tomorrow would be a nice day, right honey?" I looked up at her with sad eyes, "Never mind, mom. Let's just go home."
My mom heaved a sigh, "Don't worry, darling. Let's just eat this cake." She raised the box and smiled at me. I gave her back small smile as we both went back to our house. I looked back at the house and paused. My eyes landed suddenly on a boy who was at the window. The boy was looking at me too and for a moment, I think our gazes met before he closed the curtains.
Is that our new neighbor? Why does he look sad? I think he needs someone to comfort him. He needs a friend! I could be his friend!
"Darling, is there something wrong?" My mom asked worriedly, cutting me from my thoughts.
I grinned at her as I walked to her side. "No, mom. I just want to eat the cake. I bet that's really delicious!" I said giddily.
My mom laughed, "Of course, it is. I cooked this. Now come, let's go inside."
